after months and months and thousands of dollars I finally figured out what was wrong with my engine! had a jake piston jamming and holding the exhaust valve open slightly. could of swore it was an injector causing this with the way it was acting. found a spring in the assembly that was distorting and jamming the piston from recessing. the only way I found it was it had gotten worse in the last few days. and after changing an injector and rebolting the jake down the jake wasn't working right. found the plunger rod for #2 rocker all the way down against the rocker arm when I removed the valve cover. lucky it wasn't down far enough to bend a valve when the cylinder piston came up! installed a new jake housing and man-o-man what a smooth engine! if you all ever rebuild a jake with the tune up kit don't just rely on the kit. it doesn't come with the bigger springs and jake pistons. those are sold separately. this has been messing with me for along time. it also is what I think caused my intake temp rise with this.

Good to hear you solved it. superhauler, you sure have been through a lot with those 2 engines. nothing more frustrating than a problem you cant see under a valve cover, but yet cant pin point what it is until hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars later.
good luck, I hope that sucker runs a million miles trouble free now!Brenhan Thanks this. -
what was the motor doin superhauler? ive noticed my egt's gettin high when pulling.

i had a bad (flutter) at 1650rpm and above, thought it was a bad injector or injector's. egt's weren't high but intake air temp was high. the bad jake housing was holding an exhaust valve open slightly causing this. It would only do it at operating temp's. either the spring in the jake assembly was hanging up or the housing had a hairline crack in the bore for #2 cylinder jake causing the jake piston to stick. don't know really, but I replaced it with a new housing and it cured it. intake temp running about 20deg cooler and no more fluttering.

glad u found the problem. i found my problem with high egt's too. had a blown air to air boot. swapped out a new one with 2 new clamps problem solved.
