Why not ask another Cat dealer to sell you the software then? Maybe one that would not be any competition to you, from farther away.

Blame the whole dad gum government. Corrupt, stupid, ignorant, and lazy. I have watched all of the trucks get harder to work on, more down time (more money lost for the driver), and ridiculous cost for parts. I feel bad for customers when I have to show them the repair bills. We barely mark our parts up and have one of the lowest labor rates and it is still depressing.

I don't think the government has anything to do with this. If you can read the mans post, CAT is trying to push out the independent shops so they can gain the business. If they can't clear a code or change something, then it has to go to a CAT dealer. They are just trying to be propitiatory.

Look at this example, say I drive a Peterbilt with a Series 60. The Peterbilt dealer will not service my Series 60 engine.

I never cared for CAT, the 2003 C15 non-acert model I drove, had good power and sounded good when driving, BUT sucked on fuel and oil. The C12, amazing power too, but too much fuel and oil.

I feel sorry for all those silly bus companies that started ordering the CAT motors like they were a good thing. The ACERT engines they claimed to get better fuel mileage, but they burned 1-3 gallons of oil a week. Now, they don't have CAT motors they have lemons.

I talked to some old timer with a C15 ACERT puling a dry van a few months back. I asked what kinda fuel mileage he got and he said 4.5 MPG. I guess he doesn't haul cheap freight. I was surprised when he told me it had over a million miles and was already over hauled. It's a boat anchor for a motor.

I laughed when I saw someone on this forum POST that they had a C7 CAT go over a million miles with out an over haul. Maybe a C12/C13/C15 can, but the C7/3126, juuuuuunk.

The only CAT success stories are pre-2003, and not all of them are 'success' stories. Every one has different perspectives on what they feel is good for quality, power, fuel and oil consumption, repair cost and reliability. I'm sure there are 'some' happy people with 2003 and newer, but like that old man getting 4.5 MPG, he gets paid good money, so the cost of fuel is not really important. Now, if he were an owner operator at CR ENGLAND or Swift, he'd be in the hole.

Hang on, we'll soon be like the mom and pop stores when wal-mart took over about twenty five years ago. The only thing keeping us in the game is personal customer service, and soon they'll force us out of that too. I've noticed in the last few years, all oem truck vendors are pretty much against anybody outside of the corporate system, it's not just Cat, it's all of em'. Don't hear Alan Jackson's song about the little man hardly anymore, but it rings truer everyday. Maybe us independents need to regroup, reform the IGOA, pad a few lobbyists and administration members pockets, and maybe "free market capitalism" might be more fair.

I'll bet corporate is lobbying in the background to shut down sites like TTR and others, because (a matter of national security, where's my clearance card?) they're the only ones that should be entitled to how their systems are "supposed" to work. Like I said in another post, their competition is all but eleminated.

I worked on many C7/3126's in P&D delivery and at 200,000 it was time to retire the unit. I've seen them go as long as 350,000 without major issues, but unless 70% of those miles are behind a tow truck, I don't believe a million either.

All I can say is your vote counts.

Cat has been paying out real money (penalty) in the truck engine market for years because of the people we vote for and the things they have done. EPA

The government has raped Cat and that's our fault. We have allowed that to happen.

I can see why Cat would be gun shy and skeptical.

The sad part of all of this is that Cat had money stolen from them for years by the government for a complete and utter lie that is man made global warming.

If you were Cat, would you trust anyone with your software ?

If I was Cat, I wouldn't trust anyone.
