If you are 16 and know what you want to do you are way ahead of the curve. I'm 48 and have no idea.
I can only teach you one thing from here. An O/O is an owner operator.
An owner O/O like you said is a bit redundant.
Hang with Dad, learn all you can.OhNoTerry, Speedy356, Rideandrepair and 3 others Thank this. -

When it's time to get your CDL, plan on going with a flatbed company that takes or will train new drivers. I think TMC and Maverick are some of the bigger flatbed company that do training. Keep your driving record clean now so when you get CLD you will have clean record and any company will take a driver with clean driving record. Your dad can show you how to strap loads and stuff now so you will already know most of those rules. He can even show you the business side of running his truck and how he makes a profit and pays taxes
You can see if you want pay for your own training ( your dad probably would pay it for you) or you could go the free training with a bigger flatbed company that does training. You then have to basically stay at that company a 1 or 2 to get the free training.
You could even look at doing oversize loads later on and make good money.
I don't know much about flatbed since I never did it but it looks like a lot of work in the winter cold and summer heat.
This Heavy Haul driver is fun to watch sometimes. I know some people on here don't like him but I thought he show lots of stuff about Heavy Haul including his mistakes like buying a cheap trailer and breaking it. He was a flatbed guy and now doing heavy haul. He has videos about ordering his current truck. I'm not saying do everything his way but it interesting to see how he went from Landstar flatbed to his own Heavy Haul trucking.

I’m pretty sure if you show up at the DMV with the type of equipment you plan to drive and pass all the test you will get what you apply for.
I could be wrong but I don’t think so. -
