I have a question for anyone who has taken Georgia's CDL permit exam within the last year or so. I am currently in a driver training program and my instructor claims that the whole CDL manual is considered part of the general knowledge test, but when you look in the first section of the manual it has a list of all the sections you should read in order to get your class A and that list does not include bus/tanker/doubles & triples/hazmat sections. So basically I just need to know if I need to worry about being asked questions on a bus/tanker/doubles & triples/hazmat for the CDL permit exam? Thank you for any information.
This is a link to the states manual and if you look on page 8 you will see the chart I am referring to - Figure 1.2

You will have to take one or more knowledge tests, depending on what class of license and what endorsements you need. To qualify for a license permit, a person must obtain a passing score on all knowledge tests required for that class. The CDL knowledge tests are all multiple choice and include:
The general knowledge test, taken by all applicants.
• The passenger transport test, taken by all bus driver applicants. The passenger transport skills test must be taken and passed by all applicants in order to obtain this endorsement.
• The air brakes test, which you must take if your vehicle has air brakes, including air over hydraulic brakes.
• The combination vehicles test, which is required if you want to drive combination vehicles. (NOTE: This endorsement is not eligible to be on the CLP.)
• The hazardous materials test, required if you want to haul hazardous materials as defined in 49 CFR 383.5. In order to obtain this endorsement you are also required to pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check (go to https://universalenroll.dhs. gov for additional information). (NOTE: This endorsement is not eligible to be on the CLP.)
• The tanker test required if you want to haul a liquid or gaseous materials in a tank or tanks having an individual rated capacity of more than 119 gallons and an aggregate rated capacity of 1,000 gallons or more that is either permanently or temporarily attached to the vehicle or chassis. (NOTE: This endorsement is not eligible to be on the CLP.)
• The doubles/triples test, required if you want to pull double or triple trailers. (NOTE: This endorsement is not eligible to be on the CLP.)
• The School Bus test required if you want to drive a school bus. The school bus skills test must be taken and passed by all applicants in order to obtain this endorsement. The passing s -
Your instructor is wrong. General knowledge basically includes everything except the endorsement sections. It's those first few sections in the book. The permit tests for Class A are: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles. Essentially everything through page 60.
But it is a good idea to get all endorsements from the beginning if you can. Good luck!Last edited: Mar 1, 2016

Georgia is weird. I took all the tests when I got my permit (in Indiana). It looks like you just take General Knowledge and Air Brakes for the permit, then you must have to take Combination Vehicles and any endorsement tests later. Strange. -
NC is the same, any endorsements are on a separate test and not part of the general knowledge test.

Thanks everyone!

No its not strange, you take general knowledge, air brakes, combination vehicles is required, if not all you can get is straight truck. Class b, combo is a requirement for tractor and trailer. Don't get confused between. Cdl permit. And the commercial learners permit
