That's not true. The right magnet mount CAN get you out. I've talked 6 miles between my mobile mag mount Wilson 1000 and my 102 whip mobile for radio checks and on one occasion I was able to talk 15 miles to a CB shop along I-70 in western Illinois on the state line when I was already 15 miles into Indiana. I was on a barefoot Uniden 66 with a Lil Wil and I think he had one hell of a receiver and transmitter because normally one wouldn't be able to talk that far on a Lil Wil.
Now I'm thinking of buying a Tram 3 puck magnet mount to mount my 102 onto so i can put it on top of the truck.![]()

What do ya'll think about this Connex? thinking about buying it. -
So what you guys think of the Wilson 1000/5000 magnet mount or roof mount antenna?

I think that's a really nice looking radio albeit a little overpriced. I think it only has a single final though. It's little brother I believe has the dual mosfet final.
I think either of them are nice. I had a 5k but I sold it. Then I turned around and bought a 1k. I used to run a Lil Wil but now a 1k is the lest I'll run. I now suggest anyone who needs a mag mount to get a 1k or if you plan to run over 3k watts then step up to a 5k. -
How well does the 1000 get out?Last edited: Nov 16, 2008

Yeah i was thinking it was a high price.

I would say pretty good. Not sure how far I was able to talk with the 1000. I know a lot of people have said they went up a few S units when going from the Lil Wil to the 1000.

I have the exact same radio and love it. It gets way out there on a proprly tuned antenna system.
The only thing about it is that you have to get it done up by a good tech such as sparky at Sparkies CB shack or it will run very hot.
Oh by the way. Sparkies radios come peaked and tuned at the advertised price also.
If you are worried about the 10 meter then give Sparky a call about his Cobra 29s. They don't put out the same amount of power but honestly I and the other drivers I run with can't tell the difference in range.Coonass Thanks this. -
If you want an amp, buy a separate one from the radio...amps make heat...lots of it! combining the radio( if it's a 10 meter it gets hot also) with an amp equals short life..heat kills radios. a connex hooked to an amp will out perform one of the high end internal amp radios all day long and cost you less money and head aches.

Does your truck run the multiplexer system in it were the CB and the radio run off the same antennas? If so then I would not run that amp. You are already puching the limits of the multiplexer with the amp you were running.
