Galaxy 959 DX Flamethrower....Worth $320.00 or no?

I found two for Less than the one.
Those were used but I found a new one for a hundred sixty five bucks that hasn't been tampered with on jet.com

 

They are the older models.. this is the flamethrower .. I also remember seeing your thread regarding this particular radio (flamethrower) on worldwideradiodx forum.. I take it your not a fan of these radios (flamethrower).. i wasn't either, but for the price I paid, I figured I see what the fuss was regarding this model.. i wouldn't have paid what there asking for for these radios, hell I paid about the same for my 94HP.. I guess my curiosity got the better of me.. but all and all it is a good performer, and the price was right.. 73 Rick

 

The flamethrower isn't exactly a model.
There's a couple guys in California that Tinker with radios and modify them and call the radio a flamethrower. In my personal experience I can hear a stock radio easily twice the distance as one that's been modified by most people.
Just the other night I was listening to a guy with a stock Cobra 29 right out of the box and I heard him about 30- 35 miles away And he only had $89 tied up in His Radio and his partner that he was running with was kind of angry that I didn't hear him from that distance even though he spent a fortune on His Radio.
The guy with the stock Cobra 29 couldn't believe that I was hearing him from that distance considering how little he spent on His Radio.

 

I know them personally.. I'm not far from there location.. like I said I wouldn't pay full price for this flamethrower, I guess I wanted to see for myself what all the hoopla was about.. I own many radios and I have 2 or 3 cobra 29 LTD classics 148, 146, 25 LTD connex, Galaxy's had just about all of them... There all pretty much the same in general, and now I own a flamethrower, yippee.. 73

Is it worth paying $320 NO !!! And I didn't.. is the radio better than it would be (stock) yes, is it a rip off , yes again.. but for $200 to see what all the hoopla was about, I'm satisfied with mine.. regards Rick

 

Why waste money like that on a 959? Just get a 99v2 or a 98vhp..

I confess. I'm guilty of something similar. I had an original bipolar 959 built with a single Motorola mrf477 final. Sometimes we do things just because we can.
