Hi,
I have a dx 959 installed in my truck and would like to know if there is anything special i need to do to check the swr with an external meter (do i need to set the radios switch to swr or leave it on mod? anything like that?). the built in meter shows 1.1 on ch 1 and 1.4 on ch 40 but i've read alot saying not to trust the built in meter so i would like to be sure. Not getting any swr warning lights when i talk on it.
I drive an 07 century class, the antenna is a k-40 3500 mounted on the drivers side mirror with an after market mount, the mount is grounded to the chassie, the radio is attached under the upper storage (plastic) and the case is grounded also, coax is truck spec mini 8 and is 9' long tests ok with a continuity tester.
thank you!

Besides needing an extra jumper to go from the radio to the meter you don't need to do any thing special.

ok, thank you.

I like setting my swr 0n chanel 20 right in the middle but some people say do it on 1 and 40 and try to get a happy medium.

Or check the SWR on 1, 20 and 40 and as long as it's 1.5:1 or less you're good to go. My standard, my 2 cents.

, 20 and then 40....is because once I was given a 3 inch firestick....found out on 19, 20 and there abouts it had a good SWR of 1.5:1....but on 1 and 40 it was rather high.
