O.K. , this sounds boring but how about an educational math game ? Start by checking the log book to see what hours you have available , go to the scales with a log and try to adjust the sliders and fifth wheel so you're legal . Try to figure if full fuel tanks or accumulated snow on the trailer will put you over weight . Check fuel directories and maps to see how far you can get with fuel/hours available .

Ahh man, this would be awesome. LOL. I could see myself unwinding infront of it after a long day of "non truck GTA driving" and just wreaking havoc. -
I used to play an old pen and paper RPG game called car wars...A road warrior type game where the open roads between cities where lawless...Armed and armored trucks with auto targeting machine guns, mine layers and flame throwers could way to waste any fithly 4 wheelers scum that would try to hyjack my load...Ahh.. those where the days...

Maybe you could incorporate a "Sims" style relationship between the driver and his dispatcher, other drivers and of course, the customers. Actually figure the turning radius for these trucks and definitely implement backing into the game. The ability to stick your head out of the window and look back would make it more realistic then just mirrors.
If you read these boards you'd think the biggest enemy of drivers is their employers lol. Gotta have a cb radio function on there, if multiplayer, it would be kinda cool to beable to use headphones and cut up with other players on the cb. You could have where the more levels a driver completes, the stronger his cb gets and more toys added to it (like echo for example).
You could also have it where the driver starts out ordinary looking and if he goes through the game in a professional manner, perhaps he could look more professional with nice button down shirts etc, you know professional looking. If the driver decides to go through the game tearing up stuff and driving like a loon, he would start wearing cowboy hats and fingerless gloves with chain wallets etc also the truck starts out governed around 60 mph and the driver starts out in a POS freightshaker and works his way up to a shiny Petercar lol.
A GTA style game would be perfect IMO but have scenarios for both good and bad. Have interstates for wide open running and tight streets with obstacles and tight docks as well as big dc's and drop n hooks.
All kinds of things you could do with the sort of game you're contemplating. Also could implement different styles of trucking like refridge, tanker, dumps with different goals and such. -

Oh and they have to follow DOT regulations (log books especially) so yeah make sure the driver in the video fills one out but make it funny in some cases and show some being serious.
What would be really great is show some running illegal and how they get in an accident and spend time in prison because they killed someone (vehicular manslaughter). That way there is true to the game.
I can help with the log book stuff, it would be cool to actually have a game that we can actually drive the truck and do what a truck driver does. I think you are on a hit but make it real life but also make it funny. Like logs shouldn't be funny but many drivers have many jokes regarding the log books don't you all!
Don't take heart to what I say but it's a fact of life regarding the time in prison etc. It's what happens
