Poppapump,,,,,I just read that they filed Friday for chapter 11 ,,,that means they can keep operating...for a while I guess.....Charles Gantt,,, Eddie's brother, sold out years ago and lives the good life off his big money....According to Eddie's wife, Janice.....Eddie was always a 1 man show,,, He loved hauling freight to the Coast and Produce back home to S.C......Janice says Eddie had 60 years driving...Died at 80....He loved what he did and everybody loved Eddie.... In those days most O.O. types knew each other...It was not unusual for groups of 10 or more really fast trucks to meet in Longview to see who was going "Out Yonder".....All the really fast trucks were mostly Carolina and a few Alabama rigs...Most of the good racing started west of Fort Worth....Deserts in N.M. and Arizona and Ca. where also good places to stretch them big ole trucks... Eddie Gantt was the early Top Dog running a KTA 600 Cummins, with a set of Spicer Boxes 6x4's, always,,,pulling one of his beautiful signature, Stainless Great Dane Reefers..... He really was the Legend "Southern Shaker"
