Gap Between Earning CDL and Applying for Job - Is it a Problem?

    I realize most people earning a CDL will probably want to get hired right away to start with their new career.

    But what if one has practical reasons (ie tying up loose ends making career change) and the opportunity presents itself for CDL training - and the completion of which will occur six months before one is ready to actually able to go work for ones first trucking company?

    Question: is it a problem for trucking companies if you earn your 1st CDL license and then begin applying 5 or 6 months later?

    Question: What time gap between earning your first CDL license and applying to trucking companies does it become problematic for trucking companies?

    Thanks in advance for all knowledgeable info on the topic.

    Usually 90 days is the cutoff, when problems start.
    Some companies, such as Schneider, will run you through their refresher course to bring you up to date, then put you on the road with a trainer.
    Someone on here was in that situation and had earned his cdl 10 yrs. ago and hasn't used it since graduating from school & he found a job. Don't remember the company. Keeping that license clean and physical up to date, puts you ahead of the game.

    I would rather apply & get hired at a company and set some future start date rather than get CDL, do stuff, and then start applying.
