Curious to know the biggest difference between the two.

Rand makes the best atlas, so it would make sense that they also have the best maps for GPS.

I will agree that rand has better map data but I think garmin is better at making electronic devices. Read through the threads there are lots of complaints on the rands freezing up on a regular basis. I have a garmin and it has never froze up or not worked though a few times the routing it has provided has been a little goofy.

It really boils down to a ford vs Chevy debate you find lots of people that swear by one or the other but the truth is they are both pretty decent. Me personally I can't stand it when electronic gadgets don't work properly so I chose a garmin.

    I've had the 500, 510 and now a 520.
It's true that they would lock up from time to time, especially if I worked it really hard. But that problem seems to have been solved a few updates ago.
Now, nothing I put it through causes a freeze.

And at any rate, if it did freeze all I had to do was reboot it.
It was probably just a memory issue... trying to keep too much in RAM without clearing some out before making a new search.
Like I said, it has been fixed.
    At least on my 520.

OK, dumb newbie question here: Are the company trucks fitted with GPS, or do you use your own?

A combination of a map (paper or digital), a GPS and some intuition and common sense make for the most successful driver. If you try and rely on a single one of these, your experience might be less-than-ideal. Even a truck GPS doesn't know everything, so never rely on it. It'll get you into a serious jam.

    Moosetek13 Thanks this.

At Swift we have a GPS built in to the Qualcom.
For the most part I never use it because it doesn't provide much useful information or ease of use.

It is better than nothing, but not by much. I much prefer my RM 520.

I have owned both. I use a Garmin now. I won't waste my money on anything else.
