I just woke up on that one but it's still a good idea. Of course you shouldn't be watching the cup and not the road. The point is to learn smooth driving. While you're training your instructor should be showing you how to drive smooth. The cup is just a tool to see if you can do it or not. The way to drive tankers is smooth and steady with no shudder jerks. After awhile you'll find out that your truck will get to the delivery point almost as fast as the jackrabbit driver. What you have achieved, however, is letting the truck work for you and not the other way around. I'm sure you've seen drivers cram the gears and grind the box down. Or the driver that starts in a hop and hops it all the way into high range. How about the driver that thinks he'll get more power by running the engine up agains't the peg every shift. A good relaxed driver is a safer driver plus a driver with a truck that is in way better shape. God luck.
