Anybody In 1989 was the fuel passing through the head as it does on today's engines? Wouldn't that engine be all mechanical? Abim If the truck did not smoke badly before it was worked on, then somebody did something very wrong to make it smoke and use so much fuel. The vent on the tank could be plugged and causing the pressure problem.

    Abim Thanks this.

I agree with Luwi67, but maybe you should go to Cummins

Hello all. Firstly, many thanks for all your input with respect to solving the problems about my truck. I've been away on a long holiday just to de stress and have a clear head. As per all the pieces of advise I got from on here, I had the mechanic reset the timing of the truck and at last, she isn't using up as much fuel as before and the black smoke is reduced to a very bearable minimum too.

I've still got the problem of fume coming from inside the gas tank which I'm trying to find some other mechanic to check. I've tried to explain about the breather to my mechanic but its either he chooses not to understand me or I've somehow by some very unusual chance learnt how to speak french from my holiday lol.

Promise to keep all posted as soon as I find a mechanic I can communicate with to help sort out the breather as there seems to be none on my tank from my unprofessional examination. Thanks so much for all your advice and I do really mean THANKS!!

    BTW -
I had the mechanic remove the injector nozzle before the timing was reset. After some tests, he suggested that we change the nozzle caps/tips/ cups (he calls it different names, don't know which is correct) as the spray holes have expanded a little.
