We weren't required to use them, I thought it was strange too, coming from hauling oil myself. If you drop a lil gas/dsl no problem, drop some oil and it's a freaking mess. We did open up all dust caps while on the rack so we didn't have any residual at the customer.

I know of a local chemical outfit that's super picky, they want 5yrs of just tanker experiece before the will look at you lol. Most of the private fleets are picky but they want the cream of the crop, and they don't run ads every week.

In the PNW loves doesn't even have an experience requirement anymore if you went to an "accredited" truck driving school.

5 years tanker experience really?!, I can’t stand super picky hiring criteria. Even though tankers are more challenging to drive than dry van or flatbed give someone a chance to step up to the plate and prove their the man for the position. You don’t get experience without actually doing the task at hand such as driving a tanker.

Deleted. I forgot that we were talking about Fuel, not Chemicals. My comment had nothing to do with fuel hauling

We like to see five years experience. We figure that the driver will have made all of the usual dumb rookie mistakes someplace else. That saves us time and money.
By the time a driver gets to us he's well seasoned and knows how to keep himself...and us...out of trouble.
LOL...we don't want one of our trucks being the lead story on tonight's Channel 12 News.

    Rugerfan and Lav-25 Thank this.

You're going to learn how to back on the job. They just want to assess your abilities. You will learn how to back a truck or trailer quickly. All you do is back it up like you normally would, and watch that back trailer. Immediately when you see that back trailer getting off the straight and narrow path, make the exact opposite move with your wheel in the same amount of time. This will force the tractor to manipulate the trailer in such a manner, that it will always straighten out. Picture the crossbar is always moving left, and then right, and then left, and then right. It will always do this. You must make subtle movements with the wheel to keep it straight, never overcorrect or you'll be too far off track and have to pull up. Don't be afraid to use pull-ups also

There is one station I used to do out here in Cal in a truck and trailer. Had to pull in, squeeze in between the fuel island and the store, pull out, then back the unit back in from the street. One of the ways I got proficient in backing a west coast truck and trailer. Ughhhh

    Lav-25 Thanks this.
