Pretty scary isn't it? Fortunately it's complete bunk.
-
Thanks for opening this can of worms ...... again. Let the rants begin.
-
Yes it's a can of worms. Are you offended someone might QUESTION the way you stuff your wallet?

OK, so far we're talking about fracking for natural gas. Most of us work in fracking for crude oil. I don't now know all the similarities and differences.
This one is called Truthland, it's an industry rebuttal to Gasland. It's made at a fifth grade level, pretty annoying that way, but it's a rebuttal nonetheless:

For Gasland, if you go to Amazon you can find it and watch it online for $3. One thing about Gasland, it's portrays a lonely, reluctant, homespun crusader. But, it had to have taken a crew to produce that film and you can see many of them in the credits. He didn't fund it with money he had in a shoebox, either. So, the question is, who really is Josh Fox, who were his backers, and what were their actual motives? I don't know that, either. Truthland- funded by the industry and starring a fat, not too bright dairy farming teacher. So, sort it all out (actually, she might be bright, but Truthland really is made for stupid people). -
I'd like to break down Truthland but I don't have time right now. One ignorant remark, she asks some expert about the chemicals, and he answers something about soap. 'Hey moron, she asked about the chemicals, plural, not one benign chemical off the top of your head' (or, was that just the editing?) Of course, she made a note to ask the question again but I don't think they covered the really nasty stuff they may be pumping down those wells.
Then, there was the goofy stunt putting explosives in the pipe LEAVING AN OPENING FOR THE PRESSURE TO ESCAPE!!! Reminds me of some of the moronic 9/11 debunking (roasting a thin girder of unknown alloy over a pool of jet fuel in a blowing field, etc.) 'Yup, that proves it, duh huh' Now, I do suppose shifting earth formations over a 10,000 foot pipe might generate a little more force than a little C4, or whatever, blowing out that pipe like a shotgun.
Then there was an EPA guy who claimed Fox had a problem with breaking the rocks. Moronic, devilish, call it what you will. Little was made of the seismic issues in Gasland. The issue was what chemicals are they shooting down those holes to live for perpetuity and what risks are we facing with the clean up process? That, and natural gas getting into the ground water. -
No, but I'm offended by your consistently arrogant tone. You're one of those guys that thinks all the worlds problems would be solved if everyone just saw things your way, aren't you ??
Before you flatter yourself any further you should realize that you aren't the first person to introduce this subject in this forum. This topic invokes passions on both sides and now we can sit back and watch the comments roll in. There's nothing wrong with that, I was just predicting the coming typhoon of passionate responses.
It's unfortunate that the scope of your arrogance is so immense that you never miss the opportunity to pick a fight or find some excuse to assert yourself as superior to the rest of us lowly truck drivers.Big Duker Thanks this. -
Fracing for gas and oil is basically te same process on surface. We use the same chemicals and te same sand. The job I'm on now uses five chemicals maybe 7 if you count the additives. We're pumping into a well that's ten thousand feet deep. It a tight well so we're having trouble even breaking the shale open and the fracture we make are usually less than 1/2 in. So for someone to say we could fracture 10000 feet of earth and that water could make it all the way to the surface or even the aquifer is absurd.
What at concerns me is the amount of fresh water we use which can be up to 300000 bbls for one well and what we do with it when it comes back out. -
Not just an absurd premise, but the very idea is the antithesis of what the O/G and fracing companies are trying to achieve... increased production. If the result from fracing is that production is migrating away from the wellbore, it would be stopped immediately. Even if based on profit motive alone.
A valid concern... for any and all industrial practises and procedures.
