Another tip. I've spent a lot of time up there in Minot and Williston. I'm assuming you have a car? Do not let anyone drive it. There's 150,000 guys up there living in their trucks, man camps and hotels and no car. Tell anyone that your insurance only covers you. These guys have no way to get around. Walmart has 24/7 security keeping trucks out and nobody allows trucks in town or in their place of business. If you do your car will be gone non stop while you sleep. Just be prepared.

Drive the truck to Utah and park it. Let your boss know where it is.

I do not agree. Do not abandon the loaded rig at a truckstop. Why do that and have to pay to get home. Your yard is near home so take it there, drop it clean out the truck. Take photos, videos and whatever else you can think of to document this. You may not ever get your last paycheck, but you will have covered you a--. Go start your new job and good luck. Wait a few months, then go to www.hireright.com. You may think he's too cheap to use DAC but you never know. Get your free report and see if your old boss put something negeative on there. if so dispute it. You may not be able to get it removed but you'll have the opportunity to have your side on the report.

Don't be too quick thinken boss probably don't subscribe to DAC.That's what I thought with a cheap company I drove for.I sued him but that's for another time anyway part of the settlement was my lawyers cleaned up my dac that he put some things on it.One more thing, yes he did the respectful thing by giving his boss a 2 weeks notice and company is ignoring his request after numourous times reminding them but taking the load to a trk stop then leaving it there is the cowards way out. That could possibly be a doube whammy on his DAC.There's a secured location on his way to Oregon

I have a difficult time in reading the advice of folks who have not read the OPs posts. He says he lives in Utah, he works for a small outfit out of Utah. Take the assigned load. Take it to the yard in Utah. Take your pix/video/what have you, of the truck inside and out, and the seal, and of you turning your keys in. Even if turning your keys in has to be concealing them inside the truck somewhere, because they have arranged to have nobody there to give the keys to, and their buildings are all locked up. Have wife/friend/family member pick you up there. Move on with your life.

My sincere opinion is that you did the right thing by giving notice. You cannot force someone else to do the right thing, but when you shave every morning, you won't have a problem with looking at yourself in the mirror.

Utah is one of the worst states, if not THE WORST state, to be an employee in. All of the laws here are written to back the employer. That means an employee has to cover his backside at all times.

    Good upstanding Mormon crooks.

I will make this simple for you and all other company drivers in the USA! As a employee you have rights under state and federal law that your company must follow. Under federal law the company has to post this information where ALL employees can read it including contact information to the state representative who you can contact and file a complaint against the company. They have case workers who will help you with the process. (THE COMPANY IS NOT GOING TO TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE RIGHTS TO HELP YOU GET THEM IN TROUBLE WITH THE STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT) Drivers need to start reading every thing hanging on the bulletin board and educating yourselves or you will continue to get screwed. EXAMPLE- if a dispatcher is yelling and cussing at you the it "creating a hostile work environment" and its against federal!!! If the company doesn't fix his actions after you complain then that is called "maintaining a hostile work environment" and the company is now liable for law suite. The information is there people but you have to find it.

Have you ever gone down this path yourself and had to deal with the EEOC, DoL or any other agency directly?

I have and it doesn't work that way. There has to be patterns of abuse and hostility, it has to be documented and has to be witnessed in many cases. Having a dispatcher yell at you isn't hostile, having everyone yell at you is.

I will make this simple for the OP too,

just take the truck back to the yard and drop it off. Screw picking up the load and trying to be nice about it, you don't have to be because this entire industry isn't like any other. Your anonymity seems to be a key to getting hired by other companies.

I would not pick the load up. If you dont pick it, there's no way they can get you for abandonment. You never signed your bill of lading yet, or did you??

Well I would not pick it up and tell them on time I will not be taking or delivering the load...

    Good luck.

Btw: who you with and who are you going for? Just curious!!

Pickup the load, drive back to terminal in Utah, hand in keys. That way you are not abandoning the truck and let the owner find someone else to deliver the load.
