Hey folks, back with another question...What does verifiable experience mean exactly? Does it mean I can drive for my uncle who owns his own truck for a year and get experience? Does it mean I have to drive for a company? I want to get into tankers but they want 1 year of verifiable experience. Thanks

Simply put, it means YOU, the applicant, needs experience, which needs to be "verified". (by the hiring co.) Normally, decent size truck co's will verify a former driver's employment there, meaning what kind of equipment he drove etc. In theory, if you drove for "Cousin Bob" for a period of time, that would count, however, when a co. calls "Cousin Bob" to verify, "Cousin Bob" may not seem very credible, if his 7 yr. old kid answers the phone, "Cousin Bob" can't quite remember when you hired on, doesn't know how many miles you drove each month, can't remember if you got any tickets, and is clueless as to how much he paid you, because Wifey handled the payroll and she's out milking cows and can probably call you back in a day or two !
pattyj Thanks this. -
Haha thanks. So i guess it would have to be with a company. I have seen cement trucks with signs on the back saying "we train". Do they hire fresh CDL drivers? Would working for a company like that count towards the 1 year verifiable otr? -
Several tanker companies hire new CDL grads. Where is your location?

Yes, that outfit, Robertsons, hires new CDL grads for dry bulk tankers hauling cement/flyash. -
-
Why not call the company on the back of the truck and ask them directly?
-
Robertsons pays hourly for redi-mix. Per trip for aggregates. Not sure for powder. They do run 24/7 but a good place to get some experience.

Cool, I will put in my application with them. Thanks
