Asking for some advice. My husband has finished his schooling at Tri State schooling. He was able to pass the book test but has needed extra time in practicing. He has now been told it will be another 4 weeks till they can get him in to practice. He finished school 3 months ago. He is ready to just sign up with someone that pays while you are in training so he can have time behind the wheel to get his CDL.
I wonder who is the best of these companies to do that through. I heard Prime you have to pay them back what they pay you during training. Not sure if thats the thing to do. I know he will have to stay with the company for 1 year for the training. But waiting another 4-6 weeks to try to get his CDL on his own is just too much.
Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

In one way or another , trucking will always be there or should i say here. Right now it's sitting on a teeter totter and will swing one way or the other. it all depends on the economy and if people have money to spend. without people spending money , there will be less reasons to move frieght. '09 is going to be a bad year no matter what industry anybody is in. Here the average rate for job openings to drivers wanting the job is about 300 to 1. i only use this as this was the last ratio i saw in the last app i put in. There is a future in it now but no present. there are still otr jobs available out there , it's the local jobs that are impossible. personally i don't know a single exp driver who will go back otr. the money has dropped to slim pickens and personally to me not worth it anymore. money just to survive on the road is ridicules now compared to what the paychecks coming in are. But i do think it is a good time for new drivers to get in it. the way things are now newbies get the chance to break into the system nice and easy.luvtheroad Thanks this. -

thanks for the info....in RI we currently have a 10-14% unemployment rate overall so any job is at a premium. It seems that there are always trucking jobs posted, but I don't know what they entail. The economy is so bad right now that everyone is suffering....and unfortunately there isn't much of an end in sight. Our new pres doesn't seem to be attacking this issue as fervently as he should be....maybe he should try living on a working wage to see how it feels. Hopefully the tide will turn and everything will start to shape up come spring...there are a lot of people hurting out there now with no real help...not a good situation!!

Bait and hook there. next they will tell him he has to pay more money to take the test again or to stay in class or for some reason. plus they are going to have a new class coming in and what they are hoping is he just goes away from frustration. If you 2 can financially afford it, wait the time. Better to be safe than sorry. Now this is just my opinion but for what it is worth , here it goes. First things first. He needs to call the dmv and see if he can schedule/or if they know somebody who can give him this test alot sooner. If not and you 2 cannot financially wait that long then i say go to a company and get the cdl thru them. alot of companies still do it , i think. I am thinking smith still does it. And since he already has his learners it will be alot easier in training. This all depends on your money situation. The best way to get the cdl is too pay for it yourself and that way your not tied to any company paying them money to deliver their product. -
sure thing. just heard on the news that the economy is going to get worse before it gets better. -
