here in florida they have a program that will train and re-train people for jobs. it can be found at employflorida. Pretty sure your company has something like this. look into the state employment agency.

I agree but in todays economy , if you sit back and wait you will be left behind. gotta be proactive not reactive.

I my self am trying to go thru the WIA program here in illinois to get my CDL...but it is going to take a minute ..there are steps you have to go thru...take their class, write a resume, learn how to interview, etc...it might be 3 months before i even get that 4000 dollar voucher.. alot of redtape and then there is no guarantee they will give it to yu...

I was laid off and qualified for retraining funds. It was the red tape that persuaded me to get a loan from a family member to go to an outside school.

I just finished my six weeks on the road training and am in the list to get a truck. Just did a voluntary backing class yesterday to sharpen my skills, I'm glad I did..

Not all states have cut their funding, but I know for a fact that Ohio has cut a lot of things out. I did try for state money but was told that I couldnt enjoy my tax dollars at work (LOL) since I had already been in the trucking industry even though it was not as a driver. The state of Ohio didn't consider me "a displaced worker" I paid my way, but that's Ok I always have. :biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525: There are those who can not and I realize that and hope that they get the help they deserve.

I was stating what the school I am at does. And that there are companies who will rent you a truck and trailer for the exam. :biggrin_25525:

I'm sure that anything that involves dealing with the state of RI will involve red tape...everything here does unless you are a politician or one of their buddies. Although most states are probably similar. You'd think that at a time where people are out of work and losing their homes that the gov't would show some mercy...goes to show you where their minds are.........
