Generally speaking, how close must a truck be backed to a dock

A little late, but I checked my rear bumper for damage. There are no bents on it. There is, however, this small dent on the center of the bumper. Nothing serious.

At my old job we had an open air concrete dock. It was about 30 degrees off parallel from the road, and delivery trucks could NEVER back up square to it. Was probably 60’ wide (3 separate truck spots) with a giant gravel area to move around in. It was always fun trying to guide the hazmat supertruckers so they were square. Generally they wouldn’t listen to me, and crash into the dock with their trailer which was good to save from damaging their rubber bumpers. In five years not one driver was able to get square within three attempts. Occasionally we’d have our trucks backed into an adjacent dock which would help them out. We also had ramps we had to move by hand which were fairly short. A truck had to be tight to the dock, or else the ramp would slide. Getting a pallet jack stuck between a truck and the dock with a 3000# pallet sucks.
