Last week I completed my class B road test. I took the test at a non-DDS site in middle Georgia in a small dump truck, with air brakes. Afterwards, I took the sealed test score envelope to the DDS office in Carrollton, and the process was going fine until the person at the desk noticed a new form on her computer. She mentioned something about an "electric trailer" and asked if I took the test with a trailer, which I didn't. She said she had never seen this before, and took about half an hour to figure it out. The lady insisted that everything was fine, but when I got home and started to really look at the temporary paper license, it shows "Z" beside restrictions, and on the back it says "no full air brake". I called the DDS customer service line, and asked about the restriction, and the person on the line had no idea what I was talking about, and referred me back to the DDS office where I got the license. That did me no good, since they didn't seem to even know for sure.
Some places I have read that the restriction means that I can't operate with an air brakes trailer, and some places I have read that I cannot operate a truck with full air brake system (which is what I tested in), and only could drive a truck with hydraulic or air over hydraulic brakes. I want to see if anyone that has a Georgia CDL has the "Z" restriction, and can clarify for me what exactly "no full air brake" means. My current job doesn't even have CDL trucks, but require employees to have a CDL (which is paid for by them). I don't want to run into any problems if I need the CDL in the future because of this restriction.
Georgia Class B restriction "Z"

Sounds like you need to get ahold of the non dds that did your test, find out what they did to cause that. Never heard of electric trailler restriction. A "B" with air brakes is just that. A non air brake "B" would have a restriction. Theres nothing for traillers till you go "A" get with the testing site before someone "forgets" and you need to retake due to there screw up. Good luck

I think it's referring to a hybrid brake system which I've only seen once years ago when I towed. I had an FL90 I believe that had Hydraulic w/Air Assist. If you used the brake normally you couldn't really tell but If you jumped on it, air was doing something because you could always tell when it was helping out, then the air purge when you let off. It was weird.

Just wanted to follow up in case anybody else ran into this problem. I went to the DDS office again today, and spoke with a different person than last time. He took the time to actually find out for sure if I needed that restriction or not, and turns out it was incorrectly added to my license. I'm not really sure why it got added, but they removed it for me and I'm good to go now. He mentioned something about electric trailers with the Z restriction, but evidently that didn't apply to me.
Badmon Thanks this.
