Georgia's 'Slow Poke' bill moves step closer to reality

    snips:
So what you're saying is... I could get a ticket if I'm going the legal speed limit in the left lane and fail to move over for someone who is exceeding the legal speed limit?:biggrin_25523:

It is kind of a stupid law. If they don't get out of my way so I can break the law then you get a ticket instead of me! Traffic society is so screwed up today. It reversed from being a privilege to being a right. They break the law so much they actually think it's okay. It comes with our fast paced society. Hurry up and do everything before you die. Forget about smelling the roses.

They even say the law would be hard to enforce but is more of an educational law. How about education through retesting during license renewals. People forget what they learned when they were 16.

I rode with a friend a few times that hogs the left lane. I tried to explain to him the right way and why. His response was screw them. You can't fix stupid.

I live 9 miles from Walmart. I observed many run the left lane the whole way there just because they are making a left turn 9 miles later. Doh! :)

I agree that slower traffic should keep right, however, I do not agree that if the person in the left lane is doing the legal speed limit, that he shold HAVE to move because someone else wants to exceed it. Call me wrong if you will, but if someone can get a ticket for driving exactly 70 MPH in a 70 MPH zone because it slows down drivers that want to drive 80 and 90 then there is something inherently wrong with the way the law reads. Now if that same person were driving 65 in the left lane of a 70 MPH speed limit then I would agree, ticket him for not moving over, but to ticket a person that is obeying the legal posted limit in favor of people who wish to exceed it, is not right regardless of what you might think.

I got a ticket for exactly this reason. I was passing someone who was going 64 while I was going 65. I got a ticket for "cruising" in the left lane (violation: truck in restricted lane, although the lane wasn't signed restricted). Laws like this make me shake my head.

The law should state that the left lane is for overtaking only. Similar to European road regulations.

Get over in the left lane if you need to pass and then get back over in the right lane once you have passed joe blow. There's no need to be cruising in the left lane when you're only going a slight bit faster than everyone else. I can't count the number of times I've seen someone overtake, get distracted, and then slow down without ever merging back into their original lane. It ends up clogging traffic for those who want to drive a little faster.

Also, I thought this was already the law in several states? I see plenty of signs that clearly state "left lane for passing only" or "slower traffic keep right"

Love it. Traffic would move better for everyone.

Now if lawmakers would allow us to paintball motorists who are texting... especially the ones staring deeply into their own lap, thinking they have everyone fooled.

About a year ago, signs were put up on the Phoenix area freeways - Slower Traffic Keep Right. Then, about a month later they were all taken down. Why would they put them up only to remove them a month later?

If you are driving the legal limit, then why should you have to move over for someone who is speeding? Although, those who wish to drive below the legal limit should be required to stay in the right lane. I thought there was a law for "Obstructing traffic" for those going less then the limit? Anyway, the speed limit is the law for everyone, not just those who wish to abide by it. So if you are speeding and you come up behind me, you should thank me for slowing you back to the speed limit to avoid you getting a speeding ticket. Also we dont need more laws, just enforce those that are already on the books. Maybe even remove some of them.
