I do all my own tire work.
Tire plugs are all I've ever used. Been using them for almost 20 years and I can't recall ever having a failure. Tire shops frown on it but only because it would put them put of business if everyone used them .

I had a nail in my tire and like a dumb ### I took out the plyers and pulled it out. Psssssssssss,.. now what?!? I was at a J,.. all they had was a plug kit. Worked well,.. had it fixed at a loves not far down the road. Now I just leave the nail or screw in place,.. maybe air it up if the pressure is low,.. and head to the nearest place to get it patched.

I agree on the plugs. I use them on my personal vehicles and have never had an issue. But I know the risk is there for the plug to fail. Thats why I always patch my tires.

Only time a plug will fail if the hole is too big. Like if you had a good size bolt in your tire. Then a good size boot or patch from inside must be done. But for normal nails , screws or small bolts say 1/4 inch plugs are a quick and easy cheap way to repair a tire.
Lol if I had to pay a tire shop $50 for every little screw or nail repair it would be alot $$$ at the end of the year, oh and wasted time.

Kind of off subject but on subject. Anything to get home.

Old buddy of mine kind had this little import business from Mexico to Florida back in the day,

Well his 52 foot ketch dragged the anchor one night in port inMexico and went up on the rocks and layed the side of the fiberglass hull open with multiple full length cracks.

They went and bought every Tampon in town and stuffed the cracks with 100s of them over a Period of a week.

Sailed the boat home to Florida and still made A 100 grand.

I spend 99 percent of my time working alone . My innovative thoughts that come to me of how to do a job that needs 3 people is very rewarding when I pull it off by myself.

QUOTE="Hurst, post: 5167076, member: 70494"]$7 plug kits work good too. They can grind it out easily when patching it.

Back in the construction Heyday here in SW Florida in the Mid 2000s the streets-were littered with nails and screws fall ing off every construction truck in town rushing to make a million .

Taught everyone I knew how to abstract a screw or nail and Ream out the hole and drive in a plug.

It was ugly around here for a few years.. Nails and screws everywhere

Bar of soap will stop the leak of a gash in a fuel tank, too.
