I finish off my driving hours for my school Monday.

My question: What companies will hire a CDL school grad at 21? I'm looking to go OTR and in a few years I would like to become an owner op and lease on. Any companies that come to mind, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!!

Most people are going to ask what area you are in or what area are you living in or where it is that you want to be drop off for your home time in order to better guide you with your decision.

Though I can not fully recommend any company per se I can at least tell you who NOT to go with or who to stay away from though I am sure there will be people hear that will disagree. Its a fairly short list for me but here:

Werner (Things may be getting better here as the old owner has come back)
    JB Hunt
    CR England
    Watkins and Sheapard
Knight (though I am told that things are getting better there I can not confirm for my self)

Pretty much all starter companies are kind of a pain but like anybody will tell you it all depends on what you can live with.

Yeah, I've heard nothing good from Werner drivers, and the same for CR England. Thanks for the heads up!!

I'll read through it. I am a bit wary of flatbedding after driving past a driver a week or two ago, who was on the side of a highway, on a high load tarping it in the rain and wind. How often does that happen?

tarping and flatbedding go hand in hand. TMC tarps around 80% of their loads. You get paid for it, but its part of being in flatbedding.

Yeah, I used to help my step father on his flatbed, but it was all concrete things that didn't need tarped. I talked to the recruiter that came to my school twice(the second time was because I lost my awesome log book ruler they give out, but I sat through his talk), he said that they tarp at about 80%, and would usually put the tarps on top of the load with the forklift if they weren't tarping it for you. Is tarping really that hard though? I've thrown the straps and chains before, so I know how that goes. I've just never tarped a load so I'm kinda wary as I said.

Tarping a load is all in the manner that you tarp. Its physical yeah, but there are ways one can go about it to make it easier on themselves. Its about doing it right the first time.

My thing is I have a little bit of arthritis in my back, so I don't stay still while standing. Lifting weight isn't a big deal to me. Walking around isn't a big deal. How long would you say you are standing in one spot while tarping?
