It doesn't take an advance degree to see that the glory days of trucking are over. Some can adapt and overcome, while others turn bitter and reminisce about the good 'ol days. It's really not fair to blame the "new breed" for all that's wrong with the industry. It was in fact all those coast to coast runs in 48hrs that caught the eye of the policy makers and forced a change. Name calling isn't going to change anything. If you all want to call names, start with your congressman. Try to effect some real change. Otherwise, the rules are clearly stated and you still have the freedom to choose to obey or not. Following the rules doesn't make you a clown anymore than watching a rodeo makes you a cowboy.![]()

Ah yes the good old days.
Yeah those days of doing high speed chicken feed, sleeping on off ramps with a cigarette in your hand to wake you up. The day's that the ol girls were doing good to see 75 mph downhill with a tail wind.
The super trucker days where when someone cremated an innocent civilian in their pursuit of a challenge. And when they failed we are left with some of the very stupid regulations we have now.
Funny how those old stories always tell of two or three day coast to coast trips but never had a wait at the dock. Never stopped for food, seldom bathed, lived in a coffin, out of contact for days or weeks at a time, and a life expectency twenty percent lower than average oh yeah glad those good old days are back there.
Hell if your so hell bent on the good old days go get ya about eighty good mules and a couple Conestoga freight masters. Think of the nostalgia you could wrap your butt up in then. Why you could be the envy of every fingerless glove, tall stickin',low ridin, chrome nut sack hanging, sleeveless, billy big rigger from SeaTac to Miami.zebcohobo, end of the road and ECU51 Thank this. -
first of all i dont smoke never cremated anyone yes i miss the good old days, when you were proud to be a trucker.i dont have the never ending war with as you truckers say 4 wheelers.ive had to wait and still do at dock.where has that changed.i peddle furniture anywhere from 1 to 20 stops worked for same company 24 years only have had 3 jobs in my 34 years on road .i now have my own truck and auth so i answer to few.have had dot audit said look good so must not be to dangerous.some things have gotten better showers for one but i took them back then just not as nice.food sucks today im not a fan of fast food, but by the size of some of my fellow drivers they are.oh there are just as many stinking drivers today as before that has not changed.i didnt ruin it the clowns did.
zebcohobo Thanks this. -
Sorry for the late post guys. Know you guys missed me, were sitting on the edge of your seats bitting your nails waiting for my replys. Was at the second NASCAR race Dollar General 300 at the chicago land speedway with my family again. Coulndt even see the screen straight when I got home, decided I'd write today instead of a bunch of gibberish you guys would laugh at yesterday.
Getting rained out today, race will probably pushed over till tomorrow. Were just getting our tail gateing on right now, steaks, burger, dogs, brats, beers, and mr jonny walker. Playing bags and throwing the football around. One one else their come join use were parked in the perferd lot next to the fire truck with the 4 flags on the truck.
Back on topic now,
Got audit 2 years ago. Everything was legit. Lady said she didn't see to many o/o organized like I was. Everything in files, separated and when she asked me about a certain trip or certain day wasn't digging 2 hours to find it. Went in my file shelf picked it out gave it to her. She mostly checked the logs the days you got your dot inspections on to see if times and dates match. She questions my ways of working and told me i work pretty hard to get my 70 done in five days. After that her day went by so fast that she asked if I can make her a drink since we were done in 15-20 min. My wife made us all drinks and herself one and we talked about almost everything what they look for most of the time, what to keep track of and what not to worry about. Don't think I'll every have any worries about a audit.
You must of calculated the max miles I do all 5 days i run. I'll do between 4200-4700 miles in 5 days. No need to do more cause I'll make it their and back. Depends where I get loaded makes the difference in miles every week. Which one of my customers made their grocery list and have it ready to go back home. That's right a customer not a broker. Extra $$$ in the bank, same for going out west.
4200-4700 in 70 hours is totally legal. I dunno where you guys got your math skills or calculator skills from. 1+1 probably equals 11? If that's what the calculator tells you it's golden.
Why would i run elogs. No need to. I'm against all that crap. That think does all the math for you pretty much. If you run a little long or do something wrong with your calculations and the elog will count it up diffrently your companies will shut your truck down start your apu and yours stuck were your at for 10 hours till you get your rest.
I don't need micro management from any company, dispatch or government I do my job well. I get it done and get paid. So I'll leave it at that. Can stand to argue with a bunch of numb skulls cause you guys only see one way. Everyone should have a choice how they choose to work or how they wanna get their work done.
Dunno if I missed anything that I needed to reply to but I'm sure you guys will remind me. Back to tailgating and enjoying my self. If the pace stays up as it did to this point I won't be able to reply tonight I'll just reply back tomorrow. For all those guys not to worry about me to much. I'll be ok as I'm sure you guys will be to.
Appologies for the misspelling and punctuation. 1 shot, 2 shot, 3 shot and more, 4 shot, 5 shot, someone hit the floor. 6 shot, 7 shot maybe 8 more. Cheers guys. -
Ah yes, now you are running over 900 miles a day.

Taking the week off. Gettin my family time. Don't you see I'm at the Nascar race in Joliet illinios. If I run 35-41 weeks a year. That means I'm off between 10-16 weeks a year. A week off ever month except in the 2 summer months if it pays more than i can consider my family time costs. I leave that choice up to my wife those months.
She usually knows were to book us the most expensive vacation spots on this earth I swear. Must look up most expensive vacation spots in the world instead of best deal vacation spots. That's a different subject but I can tell you the world is a beautifull place when you travel. Recommend that to everyone that makes more than 35-45 cents a miles and thinks the 14 hour rule and 60/70 hour rule is enough.
Those hours work ok for me now just saying it would be easier for me if they changed it for more also thinking about those guys that run coast to coast and need to take a restart on the road instead of with their families. I feel sorry those truckers that thing being a trucker is a life style, they can live in their truck all year and have all their possessions scattered across the country in storage spots cause they don't have a home or know what kind of happines a home and family gives you.
Back to tailgating. Just had to get those thoughts of my head. Gotta love my Ipad. I reply on forums when I'm logging my hours of sleep before I go to sleep after I get out the gym at night and before I start my day before my 10 hours are completed. This isn't the only forum on the www I'm a part of. I'm also a part of the mr2 community and the LSX community. Absorbing and trading valuable information between each other like is done here. I can't sleep a consecutive 10. 6-8 is more then enough for me. I'll see how the talk to text works on replying to forums using the blue tooth head set. Then I can reply all day. Work smarter not harder guys and girls. Open your eyes and smile life is to short to be ignorant and grumpy. -
Where did you learn to do math? Go take a online college course and look up basic math. Might help you with you log problems. Also id think when I got audited 3 timesin the last 11 years they would of figured that out to. Must of just slipped by them somehow. Hahaha.
I'll get back to this tonight or tomorrow if tailgating gets a little out of control.
Some people can't figure things out on their own. Only can understand if its handed to them on the silvers platter and force feed. If you don't get it then take the silver platter and beat it in. Worst case scenario "you just can't fix stupid" and give up on that individual.
