The discussion came up with my family the other day about maybe dropping our authority and leasing on to a large co, like Landstar. Run only flatbed/stepdeck freight and not have to deal with the insurance and paperwork side of it as much.

I spoke with landstar and they're telling me stepdeck freight is running an average of 2.93/mi after their cut. Now I know its the recruiters job to recruit and Im sure she's fluffing the #'s.

We have no problem maintaining our authority, I just thought that it might be an avenue to get my mom out from under the paperwork and chasing frieght daily.

Im kinda curious what some thoughts are on this.

I’ve given a lot of thought on dropping mine. There are places that seem like you can make Just as much with less headaches. The place I pull for is 10% less if you are leased but then you also get there trailer. I’d probably make more leased on to them if you think about it.

I'm going to be getting my authority in the not-too-distant future. The reason for that is because I haven't driven in almost 10 years, so that's about the only way I can get rolling.

I would much rather at lease on to somebody like Mercer, but that's the way it goes.

Plus my truck is an older mechanical non eld compliant truck. I don't know that any companies will take new owner operators with paper logs.

But I'd rather have that truck than the new nonsense.

fordconvert, RSB34 and DSK333 Thank this.

You will have to have some sort of ELD system in the truck now, no paper logs unless the ELD is out of commission for some reason and that is on a limited time frame now.

Maybe 2.93 before their cut unless u pulling od/os most of time or short haul.people complain about paperwork and i dont c why, with all the technology we have nowdays thats the least of my worries.
U still gonna chase freight no matter who u work for if you wanna be independent.
Somebody said there’s carriers who only charge 10% plus u get to use their trailer Which cant be true, the contractor will pay insurance and trailer rent.
Been pulling landstar freight With my numbers for few years and i love it,decent rates good fuel discounts and professional agents

Dino soar and Doing_flatbed_nc Thank this.
