I second that Landstar agents are professionals. No pressure.. no rushing when you ask about dimensions, just good people.

From what I understand this is true. I thought I heard a while back that they have a few owner operators that were grandfathered in that have worked for them for however long and they run on paper logs but that's it. Anybody new that comes on has to be on electronic logs. I think most companies have gone that route now. Less paperwork and easier to stay in compliance.

Mercer is just a company that really impressed me. And speaking of doing better leased onto somebody than with your own authority I believe Mercer is one of those companies that you can.

Or at least it used to be. I was very impressed with them when I spoke with them and probably 99% of what I've ever heard about them is positive. I also like that if you didn't want to work for a few days or weeks or however long nobody will bother you as long as you pay whatever your weekly fees are. It seemed to be set up about as close to having your own authority, with the freedom of it but without all the headaches, insurance money, and paperwork. Not to mention always knowing you're getting paid, getting paid detention, etc etc

For me it doesn't matter because I don't qualify for them anyway without recent experience.

Yep. They are a good company. I've met Mercer drivers who are buying their own trailer and paying $400/ month through a Mercer program.

Plus, their fuel discount is awesome. I run at least one Mercer load a month just so I can keep money on the EFS card.Petro sign says $3.29/ gallon and the Mercer card is $2.80/ gallon. That's a lot of savings

For you guys leased on to Landstar, is it true that all of their agents are independent?

When I was looking into leasing on to someone I thought I read that some guys had a hard time because dealing with different agents was almost like dealing with a different company.

It seemed to me like some guys were doing really well, and other guys were kind of struggling and the answer seemed to be to find certain agents that you work with and kind of get in your own niche.

    Is that accurate?

You could always lease onto them and just keep your authority in case it doesn't work out, that's how I'd go about it for a little while anyway.

What? If it's older than 2000 you can run the ELD over with a road roller.

Yes to a point, they have to follow the rules, maintain minimal revenue and they do get charge backs from ls if they screw bcos

Good info. Zinita do you only run Landstar freight?

I guess Im looking to reduce the daily workload for my mom so she can be fully retired. I do have my wife who is a stay at home mom and has more than enough experience in billing and day to day office operations. Plus her dealing with the brokers would work well think

My girlfriend has her own authority with just her as the sole truck, and I lease with a guy.

Seeing everything she deals with, I feel the 15% I'm charged is worth it. Time is money, and no worries or extra paperwork let's me be real rested.
