again, doing pre-trips and sweeping out your trailer is part of the job. goes back to the whole 'Wendy's fast food' work mentality.....do just what barely needs done in order to bring in a paycheck. forget doing any of that "extra" work like cleaning the customers bathrooms, etc.

I really should be come a manager at a fast food joint. Someone saying, "gee boss, i've been coming to work for a full year on time, never call in sick, i should get a bonus." I'd say, "yeah, your bonus is you get to keep your job, since showing up on time is part of it."

    They don't have to.

The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves. Trucks weren't invented yet.

Stopped in Lancaster this morning to drop a T-Call. Was on fumes, so i put some fuel in. As i was fueling, another company driver pulled in, checked in with the guy at the fuel island, and he had the driver drop the trailer on the first row directly in front of the fuel islands.

As the driver pulled away, i could hear this "thump..........thump.......thump". And looked at the trailer, and could see that the right rear-rear tires, both of them, looked as if they had been flat spotted. and this wasnt just some one time event type flat spot...this looked as if the tires had been drug along the pavement......as in parked in the freezing cold, and the driver set his trailer brakes.

Now, had the driver paid attention to his trailer wheels when departing for the day by turning right and left and watching his mirrors, he'd have seen the brakes had not released. Not to mention, it would have felt as if he was pulling a couple elephants on top of the trailer, as it would not have felt the same. Meaning, it would have felt like he had to step on it more.

now i'm giving the driver the benny of the doubt that it had happened this way, if a proper pre-trip had been done. Since he would not have caught it till afterwards, naturally. But if i could hear the 'thump thump thump' i would think he'd be able to hear it increase in frequency as his speed increased going down the road. Or i would have thought if he had passed a slower truck, the other driver would have been professional enough to radio him to alert him of the status of those tires.

But i had asked the guy at the fuel island, "i sure hope he is taking that trailer to the shop?" The guy kind of had this look on his face like "why?" And so i told him about the tires. He jumped into his yard dog, drove over and notified the driver. He promptly took the trailer to the shop. But had i not said anything, i'm sure the driver dropping the trailer would have just left the tires for the next driver picking up the t-call.

Sigh - today at the Pilot in Bellemont, AZ, I noted about 100-150 sunflower seed shells and 15-20 cigarette butts had been thrown onto the ground between the pump and where the truck sits - someone just dumped it out, when there's a trash can 3 feet away, and you're getting in and out of your truck anyway...

PLEASE let me catch someone doing this, I'll mace 'em. Sorry, strikes a nerve when people talk about wanting respect from people outside the career field and we have bums doing crap like this in places where we work (fueling your truck is work, didn't mean we worked at Pilot).

    DickJones Thanks this.

I have a really nice one.

I am filling in for the shuttle people. I met a Columbus driver in KY to swap out. The SOB brought me a trailer without the driver side oval marker/turn signal! I asked, "perhaps you stopped to pee and it was stolen?"

This guy had 7 pull ups on an almost straight back! I thought the shuttle guys were senior drivers etc!! I was talking to another shuttle driver I ran with last week and he said to report him. They are not allowed to roll from the terminal until the trailer is good to go.

He couldn't explain how he missed the light on his pretrip. $16 assembly! I should have pulled the one of the trailer I dropped and let him worry about getting home missing a light.

The stupidity of these people is unbelievable!
