recently I was just told by my DR. To stop taking my prescription BP medication. I recertification in April and just had my BP checked last week and haven't been on my meds for a while now. Now, she wouldn't give me BP prescription refill because my readings were 124/80 120/80 pulse 89.
So I've been looking but I'm still under this one year card. How do I go about getting my 2 year back? Wait until I need to be recertified and tell them with a written note from DR that I don't have high BP and I get white coat syndrome when getting my BP done for a DOT? Frustrating for sure....
Getting a 2 year card back?

Since your legit for a while the best advices is to do whatever it takes to lower your BP correctly. Screw the med card, that's the best thing to do FOR YOU! Lose weight, correct your diet, watch salt, whats got your BP up in the first place? Same as cholesterol so many people "just have high cholesterol" yet their "medication" is just prescription diuretics, which means it's their diet doing it to them. DR's aren't going to tell you that, that hurts the bottom line. Good luck blaming white coat, the fix for that is them hanging out and shooting the sh with you for a few and giving you time to calm down, then retesting. That will get you a retest, but that's about it. I was in stage 2 hypertension with high cholesterol and almost 100lbs over what I should have been, rough shape to say the least. When on a low carb high fat diet, lost weight, BP and Cholesterol are perfect now and 2yr cards are no issue.

I'm just a bigger guy. But, when they run my blood test only thing down was my potassium. Other then that everything is normal.
It's such a long story the first time I ever even had high BP is when going for a DOT. So when I got and see my primary I never have high BP.
I'm just trying to figure out what's next because I'm off my meds completely. -
Keep an eye on the blood pressure for a few months after you discontinue your BP meds, if everything is okay when you get you next DOT physical answer the questions honestly regarding current medications.

Might be a good idea to call the (a) clinic that you use for DOT physicals and ask them directly.

I talked to my GF who is an ARNP and is very knowledgeable with BP issues. She says you still need your Dr to monitor it every six months..that said I'd wait until it's time to renew. When it's time to renew you could visit your Dr prior for a BP reading and get them to write a note on a prescription that you don't have high BP.
Likely you got your BP under control from changing your diet and not necessarily by the meds..Diet is a big friggin deal in controlling it so don't let your guard down or it will be right back where you don't want it.
Also you admit to being a big guy, so exercising will go a long way with you.
As far as "white coat syndrome" goes, most Dr's should be able to give you 2 or three readings to see if it changes...let the examining Physician know you get nervous going to the Dr and get "white coat syndrome".
Lastly, for your DOT Physical make sure to go to a Physician and not a discount Chiropractor like I did. -
Thank you very much

I have been told by our safety man that once you are denied a two year card, you can only get a one year, no matter what your medical condition. I've done some quick googling and can't find an answer to this. At least not an official one. Our safety guy is good and knowledgeable, but he could be mistaken also.
