I wouldn't chance it, but that's me. -
For insurance talk to another agent that represents the company that has your coverage. Explain what you want to do. May be they could help you.
Good luck. -
The best way to get the truck home is...Home as you said, it has issues and really isn’t road worthy
-
Tow it with your other truck... That liftable hitch would work great I'd think... Just need to build a fixed stinger/tongue to attach to front of other truck, and maybe someone to hold the steering wheel of new truck.

Maybe you could buy or borrow a trailer to haul it home

That is the way I always transported 2 trucks back to factory/home from a 2 piece delivery.
Each truck had ball hitch that was made to receive a ball from underneath. It was basically a pipe welded under the ball hitch with a small hole drilled to put a locking pin thru. To hold the ball from one truck to the pipe receiver of the other.
Park trucks back to back, so can lift the rear of truck you're towing.
Before you lift the truck to be towed put a chain around the axles so you don't over extend the air bags.
Put your house lights on the front of towed truck and away you go.
No need to worry about any permits or insurance.
Good luck.Cattleman84 Thanks this. -
