I'll chime in. Lone Mountain, CAG Truck Finance, truck discount mart are all valid options for you, OP. You might want to search for the shoestring startup thread as well.

:biggrin_25517: Couldnt argue with what I said so more name calling.........

    No about 20 minutes.

I only drive about 350 miles a day.

    Oh No!!!!

I dont think its really a pissing contest. You gave bad info and started on a "what you would do" when that wasnt what the OP asked.

Wow. I'm putting money aside every week. I'm working toward a plan. I have goals. There are so many people that will tell you that you can't do something. If you listen to these people, you absolutely will not get anywhere. I have been told by so many people why I should be a failure--because they are. I don't listen to them. A man of vision cannot heed the decrees of blind men. Every move I make, I am grabbing another gear But, I think long and hard before I make a move. I listen to both sides of failure and success. Dang. All this talk about failure. I cleared 2600 a week ago after expenses and before taxes as a lease op--which everyone seems to be a recipe for disater-lol. But, I have a plan always working, keeping my ear to the ground. Will everyone succeed? NO. If something happens, I have things on the back burner. Yeah, I've been done dirty by this industry before, so, I'm not naive. You have to be careful for sure. I have to agree with Losttrucker. Where there is a will (+vision), there is a way.

losttrucker,,,,very well stated. Some just have to be negative, that is probably why he has been researching for sooooo many years, thinks too negative to make the jump. Some don't think at all but, there is no reason to make it sound like you have to be super human to get in...LOL I have been researching for 3.5 years and all I am waiting for is to save the cash for down payment and maint fund... Took 3.5 years just to get the wife to get her CDL and now we are making more money with less expenses...LOL If you can pay with cash, do that first.. Cash don't cost, financing does. With you the best 956bullet

i've pumped 10G into my truck in the past 6 weeks. one thing after another. and we're still not done.

9 months without a problem. but it's catching up now.

i wouldn't say 10G is a good safety net anymore.

Because the ROI in the trucking business is insane. That is if it is run as a business first. Most that can't make it only understand trucking and not the business of trucking. Not saying you can't make it with just the basics, millions have done it and still do it. But gain that extra knowledge and you will be in the $100k income club.

I agree BBB, my best friend has been doing the lease purchase deal for two years and he had no maint fund. He is making it, thanks to the company he is leased to though. I plan on having $10K in bank for maint fund by the time I buy our truck and continue to add to it till it is at $30K. That should be enough to cover any break down.

I am glad to hear that you plan on waiting until you have a good bankroll. So many fail due to not having enough cash when something major breaks on their truck. One minute they are an owner operator and the next they are broke with no truck. I have known of some owner operators who use their maintenance fund to trade up to a newer truck when it gets to a certain level.

You also get the ones that the minute its a NEW TRUCK they no longer feed the MANT FUND.

Also see many with the NEW TOYs that they feel they need and forget that the $ generated is the TRUCKS $ from which they need to be paying themselves and covering the true EXSPENSES of the truck.
