So I haven't driven for a living in some time, but I'm still in the industry in a different capacity I'll say. I want back in the seat. I spent 16 years driving - about 10 of it OTR and mostly 48, reefer. Lots of west coast - meat and produce.

Yeah I know, stick to my steady 9-5. I'm sick of my 9-5. So with that said, lol.

I've been googling around and it seems like carriers aren't wanting to put mileage pay on their websites. I'm honestly just wanting to know what a decent starting mileage pay rate is these days for an experienced OTR reefer driver, even though my experience is old.

    TIA.

With your background, I wouldn't go LESS than .55 cpm, personally. What you looking to pull, btw? Reefer again, or other? Also, location. Maybe if you edit your profile to add location, you'd get more replies, just imho.

Best to ya, congrats on the choice!!

From what I recall about the past applications I did Most places are looking at past ten years driving history and focused on past three years.

Larger companies may want you to go through a "training" program if you have not had a license in the past few years.

Heads up.. Times have changed to where the paper/computer work is a major headache.....

Pay rate. very location, commodity, and documented experience dependent.

They dont put cpm up just like car dealerships stop listing prices to some degree.

They want you to call so they can bs you for awhile and hear how the top drivers are at 90-100k a year. Also your just not another number!

Most companies also want a year or two of driving experience in the last 3 or 5 years. Now, you may find a smaller mom and pop company that doesn't care, as long as insurance accepts ya. The mom and pop may not pay nearly as well though.. I'm looking for a new carrier and I'm keeping my expectations to around .45-.50 with a truck that will run at least 70.

Thanks for your replies, everyone! Ya made me giggle... K&B for a day.. call and let 'em bs lol. And oh no, you're never just a number lol. You jaded ####s lol.

So I didn't really want to say but truth be told, I've been at a truck driving school for almost a decade now. There's a whole lot I could say about that but won't.... Anyway, I understand Fed requirements for 10 yrs history, carriers wanting recent experience, etc. Maybe I'm an #######, but this girl is so not going through anyone's training program lol.

I figure in ten years away... different truckstops, scales. I'll have to figure out those stupid trailer door aerodynamic things. DEF will be new to me (our trucks are old), but just one more pita while you're fueling? And now you poor ######## are paying to park - that'll suck lol. I've never run Elogs so that's going to suck, too. I'm good with computers, but I can't lie -- that worries me. I was a whiz with paper. Whiz = I cheated. Speed avgs, backlogging, all of it. I guess that's all of the past now though.

I found a carrier that'll take me. What I'm looking at now is that my fiance and I will both sign on, but he will run the west coast and bring it back to the Midwest. I'll jump in the truck and take it east, unload/reload and bring it back and off he goes west again. Long story that I won't bore you with, but perfect timings for a reset for him at home .. and VERY nice truck, 70 MPH and good mileage pay. I'll keep my truck school job for now and turn those weekends. And so that is the thinking for now. We'll see.

More important, though - help me by going back ten years and tell me what I need to be ready for that is different that I didn't mention two paragraphs before. Thank you!! :)

No respect amoungst drivers... Zero respect. Distracted drivers are everywhere.. phone, computers, touchscreen this and that.... More trucks on the road and less parking. Pays about the same as it was 10 years ago. Lol. You have to be much more careful of everyone.. ofcouse, your not locked in a room, so you know the world's going to hell in a hand basket. Less large cars and more snails. Did I mention everyone has zero respect and use the truck stop as a raceway and your the 100 point target?

"We pay UP TO 95 CPM"
translation: you could start anywhere from 28-40 CPM. If you have naked pics of the owner and his goat you get 95 CPM.

Well that was a depressing post lol. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Does anyone actually only pay .28 lol? I got .25 in 1993. But then again, I had naked pics of the owner and his goat. :)
