I drove for 2 years hauling hopper trailers, logs, lowbed, end dump, and some flatbed. I was laid off in December 2012 and then attended school for auto/diesel mechanics. During that time I did also work as a mechanic doing primarily pm's. I graduated in November 2014 and am wanting to get back in the drivers seat. I still hold a class a cdl, with triples and tanker endorsments. I don't have any otr experience but would like to go otr. I'm interested in hauling transport reefer or flat bed, but am willing to drive anything. I'm based out of Colorado springs and prefer to run the western state but am willing to go east if needed. any information on good companies to drive for and any changes that I should expect from local vs. otr and having been out of the truck for a few years will be greatly appreciated.

most larger companies will require a refresher course.

Not for nothing, but now you have another career path to follow. Mechanics are always in demand, and get paid fairly well. Yeah, you will get dirty, but you will be home daily (or nightly) depending on shift worked. Your CDL will be needed as well of course, so that you will have to maintain. As I see it, you have a great opportunity to grow in the repair field.
Now as what another poster said, you "may have to" obtain refresher training with some companies, and yet not with some others. Who requires what, I cannot say. I do wish you all the very best, if you really do get back behind the wheel. -
Check with Pride Transport. They have reefers & flatbeds and sometimes hire a guy that's been off the road awhile.
Freymiller is another one to check.
