Hello everyone!!!!! I know this has been asked before but I wanted to see if there was anyone in my region who could respond. I live in the houston area and am getting my CDL with all endorsements to get back into the game. I have 1.5 years experience when I lived in the northern us driving tankers, hopper trailers, auger trailers and dry vans in all weather conditions. I delivered to a grain company and to surrounding farms. It was a 400 mile round trip/day to pick up load and deliver to destination. It was really good experience but nevertheless it was a little while back. I have a clean record and no violations. I was working for the exes dad so even though I was a good driver I don't know that he wouldn't hose me if a company called him for a reference. He may not. After I split I took a break because of the personal situation and have been working in EMS as an EMT. With my situation, do any of you veterans forsee me having problems getting back in and finding a local or ltl position? I didn't go to driver school I was trained on the job. Thanks for the input!

You won't have any problem getting back in the drivers seat.
Houston is tanker heaven and also lots of LTL jobs.
Will you be willing to attend a CDL school; that certificate opens 100's of doors.
Southeastern Freight Lines usually has a training program starting on the docks and local driving.

Many good tanker companies hire new CDL graduates, even though they may not advertise it. For example, Groendyke Transport and Coastal Transport and probably a dozen more around Houston. They will want either recent CDL-A experience or 160 hr. CDL school.

Some CDL schools offer part time classes, night/weekends, for those that can't go full time.
Here's some tanker jobs that hire new CDL grads from 160 hr. schools:
Groendyke Transport
Coastal Transport
Schneider Bulk
Trimac Transportation
A&R Transport
CTL Transportation
Airgas
Ferrellgas
Amerigas
SVTN
Superior-Carriers
Tidewater Transit
Some of these will reimburse you for your CDL school tuition.
So, yes, lots of good to excellent jobs out there for you.
Some drivers posted they found good tanker jobs just by walking in to a terminal and asking for an application and interview. Some of those companies don't advertise either. I remember some were Loves Truck Stops and Pilot/Flying J Truckstops hauling diesel fuel. Do some Google and find out where their truck terminals are. -
