Was a freight broker back in 2007 and worked off the load boards and back then there seemed to be more loads than truckers. Thinking about buying a new truck and was wondering if its still like this? Thanks for any help.

have you been watching the economy at all? everything has tanked since 2007.

Don't buy a new truck unless your paying "cash". Typically the 4th quarter (Oct, Nov, Dec) is the slow period in the year. Plus, this economy is going nowhere for another 2 to 3 yrs. No truck or trailer payment would be the "holy grail" of the trucking business.

2009 and 2010 are bad years, i'm waiting for spring (april) 2011 the economy will pick up as the year go's on, way to many drivers and trucks out there, thats why rate's and wage's are very low from 10 years ago, when the economy tanked everyone went to the trucking field not knowing that if people aren't buying anything, nothing is moving by truck, so hopefully all the newbe's out there won't last thru the holidays being home sick and all, and also hopefully a few more companys will go belly up at the end of the year, come spring rates should be a little higher and need drivers badly, late 2011 early 2012 trucking should look very good

Getting back into trucking now is like getting into horseshoe manufacturing after Ford started building Model T's... I think you'd do better investing in 8 track tapes.
Big John Thanks this.
