Been doing local for a year now in the GTA. Pay sucks, but I sleep in my bed I guess that's the trade off. Kinda miss OTR but sometimes I don't. The routine is super boring, I literally go to the same 4-5 warehouses everyday, truck goes 100-200km per day maximum, sometimes less. Make $23 an hour and work 70 hours a week, which is $1600 per week before taxes.
We have dedicated sleepers so I get to rest between loads.
Any of you local drivers get bored of it too?
I felt like OTR was much more adventurous, but after getting paid hourly I doubt I could go back.
Getting bored with local, yearning for the adventure of OTR.

Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

Find a local job that pays better....that may help keep motivation up, it does for me, you won't see me driving a truck for less than $35/h, that's my absolute minimum, glad I currently make more with all this inflation.

Sometimes I miss just driving all day but then I think of all the B.S. I had to put up with and all the unpaid work. Some days I only drive 50 kms. $1600 for 70 hours is a joke. With a year of local experience you may be able to find something that pays better.

i LOVED boredom.........
that way, i had no worries about time schedules, as i too had the same stops 5 nights a week......
if i did not retire, when i did?
i'd still be at that same ole, same ole BORING job, and LOVE IT.Tmocha29, Another Canadian driver, LtlAnonymous and 2 others Thank this. -

$23/hr shouldn't even exist in these times of inflation and it should be much more. I had multiple Job offers for that amount but told them where to go. I'd recommend searching for something better. However, it depends on driving experience.
I see it like this even if you're OTR away from home it can be stressful but with gas prices so high your're saving on the commute which sort of equivalents to the time spent OTR to various cities. I doubt with 70 hr per week there's time for anything else besides work & sleep? The rat race on the local commute is crucial.Another Canadian driver and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -

They are desperate because no one wants to work. Everybody wants $35/hr but they don’t want to work for it.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
