If you are looking into the LTL side you might want to see if they pay for overtime. A lot of the non union do not pay for OT.
Also with the new rules in place you have to have a hazmat and tank endorsements. Plus finger print checksKingTrucker Thanks this. -
Another option is to haul gas...

How does having hazmat and tanker endorsement have anything in relation with the new rules?volvodriver01 Thanks this.

That's right I think you didn't come here and ask what it would be like. If you did, you would have been told. My advice is get out now before you are too old to do anything else. As for being born with a silver spoon and working for success....well, I aint the one complaining about my job after 6 months. Not trying to start a fight with you but this is how it is.allniter Thanks this.

You probably never experienced any hardships. You dont know what its like to be me, and couldnt walk in my shoes if I paid you to. And if I wanna complain about whatever it is, I'll do just that! You dont like it, kick rocks! Nobody asked specifically for you to comment anyway. Mind yo business if you dont have any positivity to add to the cause.

Yeah I hear ya. I'm an LTL guy now myself but I did 6 months as a roadie when I first got into driving. LTL is a job...you get up, go to work, and come home at the end of the day same as any other McJob. OTR is a lifestyle, and not a particularly healthy one IMO. Too hard to eat right or get any exercise.
That said, there are things I miss about going out on the road - it's more fun in some ways in controlled doses. Sometimes I think an ideal job for me would be a M-F OTR job with weekends at home. Maybe like an LA turn where I had a set schedule I did every week. -
All these test are so easy even the Hazmat. On THIS site take all these practice test over and over til you get 100%. Then go to the DMV and take the test you'll pass. All the test on here are all what the DMV gives you. So freaking easy. Take all the test, tanker, Doubles and triples stay on forever. You need a tanker for LTL now. Hazmat every time you renew your license. Acouple hours studying and going to the DMV will open up alot of doors for you to make good money and be home to enjoy it.EAzYrIDer007 Thanks this.

LOOK LOCALLY!...The best 2 companies I have worked for never advertise and are very small companies, 60+/- drivers...It took me less than 2yrs OTR to find the places close to home...My terminal is now 12 miles from home, our main client is based within 6 miles of terminal and all we do is run their product out to their clients in large containers and bring back the empties...All the runs are between 1200-2000m(rd trip) and they ALL bring you home every 2 or 3 days, so hometime is awesome!...I avg 4000m/wk and the best part, they run good equipment!...I never thought I'd find a place I consider the perfect driving job...
These places exist, you just have to do some legwork...One of the 2 companies took you from CDL school, the other wanted 2yrs...They're out there...KingTrucker Thanks this. -
starting january 1 2014, you will need a tanker endorsement to pull totes.
