I would like to find out about getting a class A CDL while I maintain my regular weekday job.
Near me there is a community college, they have a semester long course
but all during the days. That won't work.
I don't want to go with a carrier-connected school because I won't be signing
up to drive for X-years for them.
Are there places which will do driver training on weekends?
The reason to do this: My neighbor is starting a dirt hauling business, he
was dropping hints that, if I had a license, he could throw me some weekend work.
Maybe I should get the learner's permit and drive with the neighbor for awhile?
What do you suggest?
I have no ambition to do intense, full-time, OTR trucking.
I am located in eastern Mississippi.
Getting CDL while working regular hours?

When I lived in the northeast there was a trucking school up there that did nights and weekends to accommodate people that worked full time. You should look for something like that. If not then you're gonna have to train with your neighbor or find another way. Not sure it would be worth all the hassle just for weekend work. Maybe you could help load the trucks?

The school I went to here in Ohio does a weekend class. I think it is 15 weeks. Do google search for companies in your area and check hours on their website. Good luck.

You will learn much faster by taking it every day for a week or two till you pass the test. It's one of those forks in the road where you got to think about your future and take a chance. I understand that your employer may not agree with your career changes, people are jealous and or just concerned about a profit in the company where you work. If its a money issue you need to save enough money to afford a couple weeks off to make this thang happen.
