I recently graduated from roadmaster driving school and have class a cdl with all endorsements. I keep getting turned down for hire! I have 1 speeding ticket which comes off in 4 months. Is this what's holding me back? I had an accident 8 years ago, but according to their "qualifications" they only go back 3-5 years so this shouldn't be the problem. Being honest on job applications seems to be hurting me. Should i lie to get hired? Honesty isn't working!! Any advice would be welcomed.

I went through the same thing. Turned down by everybody. I had a suspension in 2004 but it was for failure to appear and later had all charges dismissed. Just hang in there and you will find somebody. I finally got accepted at Swift. Some say it is a bad company, some say it is good. Guess I'll have to decide for myself, but at least it is a place to start.

Yeah i agree, you will hear good and bad about all companies. I'm like you, i just want somebody to give me a chance. It doesn't seem to be about whether you can do the job and do it well anymore, it's about them hearing what they want to hear and if your honest it shuts the door......very frustrating!!

How fast was your speeding ticket? Generally, 15+over can be considered reckless driving. What is your age? If you are under 25 or under 23 that could be hurting you? How about your work history? If you have big gaps that are hard to verify that could be hurting you.

I don't understand the thinking for the trucking companies. I don't have a CDL, but have been considering it. Of course, I just got my 1st ticket in over 10 years in May for 23 over..not reckless opp, just paid out. I've also been self employed for the last year. So, i know that I'll have to wait a few years to even consider getting my CDL.

BUT, for years the trucking companies have had a hard time getting enough drivers. Now, because of the economy, they have their pick...but it's not going to last forever. You would think they would be happy to hire people willing to work hard regardless of their employment history.

I understand there are a lot of experienced hard working drivers out there that need jobs before some new grad....I guess my point is that I don't understand how some of these companies think?

what do i know...i'm just venting, i guess.

The problem is too many drivers, not enough freight. I graduated school in March this year and had to try for 2 months to get a job. I finally got on with a great company running OTR. I only plan on doing it for that precious 1-2 experience that is needed to find a regional gig where I am home more.

I get good miles but there is a hiring freeze now at the company I work for. It's gotten crazy.
