This was not the place for your rants and your frustrations.
Next time, do some scouting before you attack.

And what exactly does your rant have to do to with Pape?
The title reflects the posts perfectly accurate in my mind.
Money is still there to be made, but by the sound of it, it isn't coming your way. Maybe look into your own operations BEFORE needlessly slamming someone else.
And yes, I have done the bigger stuff, for over 20yrs. I am still running my truck due to me being able to adapt to market conditions regards what I haul etc.

I secured a little more HH work for next week. This one is supposed to be just over 70K, which is approaching our max on 6 axles. Heading to Baltimore. Hopefully, with some time to work on it we will be able find something heavy out there to haul. So far we haven't put back to back HH loads together. We have been leaving Iowa with a heavy load then hauling normal freight back. I feel like we have the permitting and trailer operation down. Now we just need to develop more consistent work.

Mr Pape, have you considered bouncing from Baltimore to Kernersville,NC? Haven't been there in a year or so (that was Daily's turf), but they have the 70k JD escavator's out of there. If the rate is decent enough, it should cover the 365 mile bounce from Baltimore, and be better than waiting for days for a decent load out of the port.

Thanks for the idea, Six. We have thought about that, but kind of forgotten about it recently. I haven't been paying that much attention to bids out of there recently, but I need to get dialed back in.

I am assuming that most states would allow you to permit heavy on five axles with the flip on the rear deck. Is this correct? My assumption is that they would consider it part of the trailer and not part of the load. Are there any states that don't treat it this way?
-
I know with a lift that most states will require it to be deployed, I would assume that a flip would be the same.

So far we have utilized the same company driver for all our HH work. I don't see this changing in the short term, but if we build this part of our business I would like to utilize independent contractors. Currently, we pay our contractors 68% of LH (pulling our trailer) and 100% of FSC. We have paid 75% when a contractor has their own trailer. Would any of you HH contractors share how your are paid? I would also love to know what your expectations are for rate per mile if you don't mind sharing. If you feel better pm'ing me, that is fine as well. I know what my needs and expectations are for my trucks, but would like to know what HH contractors expect.

6 or 7 axle?
Percentage is not as important as the rate in my experience. I'd rather get 67% of $4 a mile, than 68% of $3.50 a mile.....
If 6 axle, I can send you my loads so far this year, to give you an acceptable idea.
If 7 axle, then someone else will have to chime in as it has been too many years since I had the 4 axle truck.
I average about $2 a mile, all miles, to the truck though as a guideline for you.
Let me know via PM if you need numbers for the 3 axle trailer loads, I will send them that way.

Latest HH load. 10-7 wide, 14-3 high, 12500-39000-57500, 109K Gross. Unfortunately, MD permit office has not been open since Wednesday, and will be closed on Monday for President's Day. So it will probably be Wednesday before he makes it to the port.
