make sure when you are doing these things to make yourself a calendar so you remember when to renew. Don't forget KYU, NYHUT, New Mexico weight/distance, and Oregon if you plan on running these states.

Most of those states that require an additional permit will send you notification once your authority is active.

If you choose to use outside services to do all your permit work, I would caution you to be careful with whom you do business. I have a friend who is planning on going back to running his authority. I checked on a couple of things for him this evening. One service charges $200 to file your UCR. The website appears to be an official website. The actual filing fee is $76. Another service charges $200 to file your MCS-150. You can do it yourself for FREE!! It doesn't take that long. You basically check off what you want to select. This site also appeared to be an official site, but was a permit service. I understand that some are intimidated about dealing with government forms. There is no need to be intimidated. If you make a mistake, you will hear from them and they won't reprimand you or throw you in jail. They may just ask you to clarify or change your response. If you get stuck, you can always post or pm any questions to any of us who have been through the process. It is pretty explanatory and they do have instructions you can follow. If you can read, you can do your forms. The MCS-150 is the form that is used to apply for your motor carrier authority and DOT number. OOIDA is probably one of the least expensive to do all the filings for you, should you decide to use an outside service.

I understand they will take time to help you if you have a problem. They will walk you through step by step, I hear they are very nice and don't care if you ask questions but you want to make sure you do it right or it will cost you another $300. Have your credit card ready for the 300 and that's it, good luck

Anyplace that is one stop , including OOIDA is overpriced on their services . I belonged to OOIDA for one year only . I checked on getting full coverage to have my own authority and they couldn't help me in my state .
Check for a local drug consortium . I know an O/O that has it through his county health department for $15 a year . He gets home weekly though . His wife would get the notice and tell him when he came in .

There is a $2,000 bond for Oregon but if you don't run there very often then you can get a trip permit and that will save you some money. your permit person can get these for you.
