I am about to test for my Class A, and am having problems even getting interviewed. I am in my mid-30s and have always been on disability; No job experience whatsoever. I am also legally blind in one eye, which restricts me to my state of residence. I already have my Class B, with which I was planning to either drive a garbage truck or school bus, but they both rejected me. I even took the DMV tests for S and P before applying!
What should I do? Do I have any prospects at all of getting a job?
Getting off of disability and K restriction and getting driving.

Will you lose your disability benefits if you work?
Another driver on here has only one eye and he runs OTR.
He's a new cdl driver.77fib77 Thanks this. -
Driving commercial vehicles isn't the only job in your area.

Yes, but that's not a problem. My only problem is that I can't really do any OTR driving, because my DOT examiner requires me to have a waiver for my vision and a K restriction, which limits me to my state. So I can't get that experience.
Right, but that's what I've trained to do. I don't want to waste my time and the governments money (I spent several months on this, and VOC Rehab paid 5k bucks for my schooling). -
Post #4 doesn't require a CDL; did you read that part?
-
Thanks, but I don't think I'd want to deliver vehicles.

Maybe steady work, doing anything, will help an employer overcome the worry that you have zero work history? Nobody can see around the corner.
wis bang Thanks this. -
Thank you. That's a good idea. I had wondered about that, BUT all I ever hear is that a CDL is an instant ticket to a job, and that they'll hire you fresh out of trucking school with no experience. So I assumed SOMEONE in the industry would hire me. Like, people always tell high school seniors they can get their CDL at 18 and will get hired immediately - and they also have a K restriction (due to being under 21) and no experience, so what's the deal?

Start your career driving non-CDL trucks until you can show a solid work history & ethic.
