I have yet to use that pump. 1.74 million miles on the "here kitty kitty". Been prefilling the filters since brand new, fires right up. I like the idea of capping it off. It is a much cleaner look. I carry a filter wrench and Lucas or Marvel in the event I need to get it going if a hose breaks.

If the filter is upside down it would not fill with fuel, right away, and would act like a damper, the early "E" and a lot of other Cats especially will not start with a very small bubble of air, and will blow white smoke. I have an air tank I fill with fuel to power flush systems when they run out of fuel and or get a bubble. Prefilling filters is done 100% of the time you do not get paid to stand there and pump for a 1/2 hour.
I never change both filters at the same time, do the primary, run for 2 minutes while the oil fills the system then change the secondary check the oil and run again.
I have been to most every Cat engine course, never did they ever say to add anything to the fuel system but fuel. But then you are a lot smarter than the engineers that build the thing.
    Just a thought!

There is no doubt that the CAT engineers are very well educated. The technicians whom invest a great part of their livelihood repairing these or any engine are very well educated/experienced as well. Some folks find a routine or method that works perfectly fine (so one hopes) on that particular system.

I went ahead and deleted the primer pump via the parts list from links in above posts. I purchased parts from a CAT dealer. I also performed the 3/8 port "adjustment" in both the filter head and the block of plate. I can say, that fuel pressure is right on steady 100psi @ 1300 rpms. (Acert C15). Prior to this fuel flow adjustment, the pressure had moments of inconsistencies.

Decent truck shops have some system to supply filtered fuel to fill the filters, eliminating contamination to the "clean" side of the filter, and reducing the amount of hand pumping required.

Just finished flipping through the Landline mag. I saw an add for the AirDog Champ. Anyone bolt this on yet?
