    Hey everyone,
I have tried searching and researching every bit of information that I can find on getting into the trucking industry. The problem that I keep running in to is that there is loads of information but it seems that majority of the info that I look up specific to the companies I am interested in and my location ETC.. are all pretty dated.
So I thought that this would be a good first thread.

I am looking for a CDL training school in Oklahoma. I have a wife and two kids and we have sat down to talk about the whole idea of me going OTR for a minimum of a year. My problem is that every single time I start to look in to a certain school, I find something that turns me away from it.
I started with wanting to join C.R. England (I know, I know, im not going with them) then after I started reading, I decided that I needed to research. What I found was an unbelievable amount of schools and company sponsored training programs that ALL had mostly negative reviews and very little positive was said for any of them.

I love driving, I love vehicles and engines and learning how things work. I want to get into trucking because I love the idea of getting paid for doing things that I love to do. I do not want to go into this the wrong way and get discouraged because of horrible schools or companies. So finally now that I have explained a bunch of stuff that I doubt anyone wants to read, heres my question(s).

Firstly, where should I be looking for info?
I mean all of these companies cant be that bad, there wouldnt be any new truckers.

Second, if anybody has any advice on a good school in oklahoma pleass will you give me some info?
Im looking at roadmasters right now but they have lots of bad reviews all over as well..

Thanks for taking the time to read, Im sure that these questions have been asked over and over.
My name is Myke and I look forward to becoming more active in this forum soon

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Have you checked with any of the community colleges in your area? That is where I received my CDL from. I saw on the back of a trailer that LISA out of Texas has training but I know nothing about them.

Roadmasters is OK. Almost any school that's 160 hrs. or longer will get the job done.

Community College schools are much cheaper and just as good if not better. Maybe better because of more one-on-one training.

Get all the endorsements. Get TWIC if you plan to drive hazmat/tankers. Google for nearest TWIC office.

I'm not familiar with Oklahoma, but can attest to the benefit of doing your research.

Options vary, including Company paid training, independent truck driver training schools, and local community colleges.

I opted for a community college program.

Many factors can weigh in on what may or may not be the best fit for you.

You've definitely come to a great place to get some of your questions answered.

    Best of luck to you.

you want to go to central tech in drumright. there is government money available to pay for it if you need it. they provide housing while there; i had the best time of my life when i went. i got hired on with a crude oil company right after i got out; but that only lasted 5 months. so, now i am looking for another company.

i can tell you more about it if you want to talk or message. i would recommend central tech to every single person who wants to get into trucking. they give a very solid educational experience.

my story, i am now 37, married with a 3 year old girl. live in altus. i went to central tech last sept-october.

Wow thank you everyone for such a quick response!
    What is TWIC?
im going to have to look that up.
I havent looked into community colleges yet.
I did find central tech in drumright because its actually pretty close to me but location is not as important to me as quality of the school and the training.
Financially speaking I will need help paying for school so grant money is golden in my book.
I am not focused on cost though because like I said quality is my top priority, I am very serious about this being a career so I can work on the financial aspect after I find the right school.
I would very much like to know more about central tech so I will send you a PM okie.

Get all of the endorsements possible, including a passport and a TWIC card. Also, call companies that you wanna get on with, to see if they accept the school you wanna go to. It seems like they are becoming more lenient with them anymore. If I knew more about schools out in OK, I'd help suggest.

    Best of luck to you!
