I'm getting the run-around in the state of Wisconsin, I am trying to get my truck title only. I have been told that I am sales tax exempt, however the dor in Wisconsin is saying that they are not sure if I can use code 2 or 3, because I am leasing to a company based in Alabama. They have also told me that it Is a crime to put the incorrect information on the form mv1 including a fine and jail time. I would appreciate it if someone who lives in Wisconsin and has delt with them to advise me on what I should do. I don't need Opinions simply facts only please.

It doesn't matter where you are going to lease it.

On the back of the title it asks for the mc# ..for tax exempt status.
    I'll look in a bit

    E Fees Title Fee:
List the code number and information requested:
    CODE REASON

    2. Purchaser is Common or Contract Carrier using the vehicle exclusively as such. List Authority Number.

I do have my own authority. Maybe I spoke to soon.
I know a few drivers that leased to other carriers, just put the mc# and didn't pay any taxes.

How did the DOR get involved? This is a DMV process.

    Good luck.

    Opinion ahead ...

Call your state Ag office and ask them for the specific law that creates the exemption, it could be called an interstate commerce tax exemption or rolling stock exemption. Find the law, print it off then go back to your DMV and show them the law.

It does not matter who you are leased to, it only matters if you meet the requirements of the state to get the exemption.
