Well, I have never been an o/o before so all I know is what I have researched. Here is what I have determined, though I wouldn't take it from me:
- Good used truck 2000-2005 Model
- As low of miles as you can find
- NOT a Pete 379, KW 900, FL Classic types
- Look for Int'l 9400 or FL 120s (MAYBE a Pete 387; but parts/maintenance will be more)
- Around $20K (or less is you can find one)
- I plan on pulling step-deck tri-axle with weight so "I" want a 550HP with 1850 torque; 13OD or 18OD trans
- 22.5 tires with 3:58 rear ratio (ratio depends on how fast I want to run, but I am thinking 60mph normally; I could be a little off on the 3:58 ratio)
- Be prepared to dump 15K into an in-frame OH in the first 2 years (still only puts $35K into a truck instead of $120K or even 50k)
Why do I want this type of truck? Fuel Savings and the ability to properly haul the loads I am anticipating. Just my 2cents.
Experienced Gentlemen/Ladies please punch holes in my thinking if you find any.

The dealer will give you a temp tag to get it home. OOIDA sells a temporary insurance product to get you home. It is not bobtail insurance, you can only buy that when you have an active lease to a carrier. Once you pay your insurance and it is active, you can get your plate and run intrastate, if your home state doesn't require intrastate authority as well.
As far as aero trucks go, it won't be nearly as important pulling a triaxle step as finding a truck that is built well and spec'ed to pull heavy loads. A 12 wide , 70,000 pound piece isn't going to get good fuel mileage no matter the truck. The key is to charge accordingly.Cetane+ Thanks this. -

if you want fuel economy, pull a van.
open deck freight is non aerodynamic and won't give you good mileage no matter what truck you drive. and i've been in kw's, petes, and fl's. with both detroits and isx's. although, the fl don't do bad with the right blend of fuel.Cetane+ Thanks this. -
I bought mine in another state and the dealer had it delivered to my location for $600. Didn't require me to do anything until after I took delivery. Check with the dealer, they may be able to help you out.
