I am in the 5th week of a 8 week CDL course. Over an entire week the instructor has canceled class with days here and there canceled also. I figured out he has been going OTR during these days for a job on the side. I am conflicted about throwing him under the bus about this or let things be. I will not deal with him anymore in a few weeks anyways.

If it was going to extend the 8wks, I'd say something, that's just not right...
-
He said if we don't take the final test by the end of the 8th week we will finish up with the next class.

I'm guessing the instructor answers to someone. They must be aware that the instructor is taking time off.
Can they add 1 plus 1 OR is the instructor blowing smoke up their wazoo? -
Sorta sounds like you are the one thrown under the bus..
rocknroll nik and I am medicineman Thank this. -
I'd assume the State knows and licenses him to train a Class 8 driver. Maybe a phone call or two might help? Personally, if I had found that out, and he suggested that I might have to test out with the next class, the biggest problem would be figuring out how to surgically remove my boot from his ###.rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
It is YOUR money, it is YOUR career, it is YOUR time that's been paid for. I'd have no problem speaking up. He accepted the responsibility just as you did but he's not holding his end up.

if he is at some type of school, accredited or not, his employer should well be aware of this....aren't there other instructors there...?? now if this is a one man show, so what, he will have to make arrangements for you to get your training.
if there are more than just the one instructor, why should it bother you...???
do as you wish, but i for one know that money speaks volumes for drivers, and if he gets the chance to make money, he is going to grab it, as you would have as well.
report him to the company (school) and let us know what they tell you......
i do not believe you ever told us (but maybe in another thread you did) where you are going to school, a private person teaching you, a school...??? what.....
you ain't got a leg to stand on if its a school, as they would know he's working on the side.....in fact, his teaching may be what's on the side.....not his driving job........you know, "part time"....... -
This is at the local community college, he is the only instructor. I personally don't have issue with a side job. What I have issue with is he is ignoring his job as an instructor. And yes he is a one man show. I have decided he is not worth the trouble, I will only have issue if I do not finish on time.

You should bring your concerns up with the community college. You paid tuition for a course that is X length of time long. It is the CC's responsibility to ensure instructors are available to train.
rocknroll nik and PainNdaNeck Thank this.
