Got my CDLA last Sept. I am trying to stay local. I have accepted the fact I may need to do some OTR. Currently I am working for a local transportation company driving 30 pax buses.
So I have done job searches online and found tons of Dedicated Local Home Every night and they have stated recent grads ok. So I call or apply online and just like that the response is.... wait for it.... that position is full but we have a regional dedicated position, you will be gone 14 days home for 2 and it pays .37 CPM.
What is frustrating is when you text chat online with the recruiter and they say yes the local position is open just fill out an app and email me and I will contact you after I review your application,. So either they forget me or they call/email me and say, sorry but that position has been filled but yet the posting never comes down even after a month. So I am looking at just paying my dues and try for local again in 6 months.
Also tired of hearing truck schools quoting that the industry needs to fill 400k truck jobs and by 2015 it will be 700k+ and yet every job it seems requires 2 years. Doesn't seem like there is much a shortage if the pool needs two years unless there are millions of unemployed experience drivers looking for work but still the math doesn't add up. So does someone have suggestions on how to fudge a rookie driver resume to show two years otherwise there is a lot of dishonesty in this industry.
Exhausted.

Where are you located? Maybe try Old Dominion as I know they hire new drivers but you need a doubles and hazmat endorsement. As far as cooking your resume you can put anything you want but when they call to verify then what?

If there are millions of experienced drivers looking for work then they must be blind, or retired. Look, trucking has been good to me. It has paid my bills and bought many of my toys. No regrets for me.
Go-Go Thanks this. -
Proceed accordingly.

Well first thing is first. You can start getting out of the starter companies with just 6 months experience.
Second, If you have someone offering you 37cpm right out of the box that really isn't a bad rate for a noobie.Dinomite Thanks this. -
Thing is he wants to be home everyday. The bait and switch that gets tons of people into the industry and not getting the job they want. There are tons of OTR drivers with experience who would like to be home everyday as well. Fudging is only going to make your problems worse, and driving buses will not count as experience. Either you get lucky like some of the guys on here and find that great company who hires rookies locally. Or you put on your big boy OTR pants and stay out a couple of weeks at a time. The local companies have tons of applications. These schools are recruiting for OTR that is where the need is, and because many can't hack it. Or the school and on the job training sucks. These guy's tear up something and nobody want's to give them a job.
Also even if you fudge a 2 year Resume. The driving test will probably give you away. Faster then them finding out you have fake references. I think you may need to pull the trigger quick on an OTR gig, because some after a few months out of school and you haven't driven a class A will want a refresher course. So back to school or to a bottom feeding OTR company that will probably pay less then what you are getting driving the buses.
Also if you don't live near a big city. Then it's really going to be hard to get local. Even with 2 years otr. You may only get a sub par local job. Keep your record clean and the sky is the limit. Or look for another career, because what you see is what you get.Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
You have to pay your dues...your a newbie...I been trucking 5 years and im still a newbie...get some years under your belt before you try to get a local gig...you can easily type a resume up but if they run dac reports or mvr thdy will know u made it up

I also got my CDL last Sept. Hit the oilfields! I'm home every night and have two days off each week! I get $.50 cents per mile empty or full and also a commission on the number of barrels I haul each load/day.
Not what I want but I'm taking home about 3.5k each month...it's slowly getting better though. -
