Talk to your recruiter. If he says he'll fund the gas, get that in writing (email).

The last time I worked for SMX, was living in S. Ca. I was a re-hire, they paid me mileage to Iowa for orientation and then mileage to Stockton to get my truck. I think they gave $800, if I remember, a check before I left Iowa ! Much better than the bus, ask them.

I too am talking to swift for their school. I believe that I saw somewhere on their website that they would pay for gas if you drive yourself, not positive cause that is not an option for me so didn't really pay attention to it.

A kind of off topic, but how long was the process for you to go from talking to the recuter to finding out when your class starts?

I don't know yet. Last Thursday I filled out my application and in few minutes I got a call from Swift recruiter. She said that she needs to check my criminal background, driving record and stuff like that... She said I should call her 2morrow afternoon. I called her on next day and she said that she didn't check my dr.record yet, call me on Monday. So I'm going to call her Monday morning I hope she will check. We'll see... Can't wait.

Have you checked all you options for school and jobs? I'm not trying to shoot you down or anything like that because Swift may work just fine for you. But I would like to think that you have weighed all your options and this is best for you and you just didn't pick them because they look good on paper.

    BigJohn54 Thanks this.

I've done a lot of research. #1 on my list was Con-Way Truckload. I filled out an application, received a email which says We are evaluating your background and experience and will contact u if your profile matches our needs. I was waiting for a week, can't wait for weeks, I need to work. What are they checking? I have clean background and driving record. Then I checked companies like Swift, Crete, Roehl, Schneider, FFE and few another ones. I decided to go with Swift. Have a few reasons, first of all it's the biggest trucking company, heard good reviews like stable amount of miles. They should be busy because they work with strong and always busy companies like Wal-Mart, FedEx, Target, Dollar Tree, Lowe's. Also they have a school. I know they don't pay well, but it's ok because I have 0 experience. I don't expect big paychecks . I need to start somewhere. It's just my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.
