If things are bad now, when the economy slows, really slows. More will jump into Trucking.Regulations getting rediculous. Hardly worth it. IMO not a great Occupation for a young person who has other options. Better get a 4 yr degree in a field with demand.Trucking is the Job that never ends.Pay is sub standard. I’ve done all I can to make the most pay possible over last 33 yrs. Better than average. I can’t complain given the choices I had. My kid just Graduated and started 1st Job $32 an hr and great benefits. In a high demand field. That makes me feel relieved. Otherwise as they say, there’s a warm seat for every ###. You’ll always have a Job cause it’s hard work, pays less than it should and no one wants to do it.I would also check in HVAC work. If you can understand electrical and have basic mechanical understanding. A very good Trade that’s in demand everywhere. Start you’re own business, eventually if wanted.Would be more Lucrative than Trucking.

It's ridiculous, they're offering a dollar a mile here in Atlanta to the Midwest in spite of the load ratios you've mentioned. And they're flying off the boards.

Shows how anxious some are. Gotta make those big payments. Rates to Fl. aren’t good either. Not good.

4 year degrees in a field in demand = No full time job. Only contract, with bottom feeder wages as they compete with Visa holders. With a debt load of $100k or more.

I’d recommend a fleece purchase to the younger generation before I would tell them to attend college.

Of course, there’s the medical field. Which is quickly becoming a slave market. Fixed pricing, to pay your $2 million in student loans.

My son says he must have $32 an hour. I’m interested in where yours is located.

Primarily because I showed my son on paper, how wrong he was. With his current rental payments. He could afford to take an $8 an hour cut in pay. And own his home in 10 years.

    If he would just move.

Everything comes with it’s on pricing model. Everything.

My kid got a 4 yr scholarship. Then debated whether to go into debt. When I realized the goal was to be top of the field, I encouraged getting a loan for Graduate school 4 yrs and $52,000 later.Always kept a job since age 16. Others I’ve seen have blown their Scholarships. Mainly because of Laziness or too much Partying. Everyone’s different. Better they earn it and pay for it themselves. Otherwise it’s taken for granted. Builds Character too. All depends on the field and the demand. Lots of useless degrees out there, not worth the time or money

There are things worth the money and debt. But they’re not considered good enough for some people.

Just a quick comparison. If I worked full time. I could easily make the same as my son does per year.

Yet my son says he’ll never have a job that doesn’t require a desk. And he certainly will never drive a truck. Truthfully, I hope he never has to.

He paid over $75k for his education. I paid zero for mine.
